I've just installed a new 72-pin cartridge connector in my NES and now the "cartridge bay" won't stay down when I insert a cartridge and press down.

I've noticed when I screw down the "cartridge bay" completely the front sort of bends outward. I'm assuming this is where my problem lies. When I loosen the screws the bay seems to work fine, but when I connect the top metal shielding and the top of the NES, it presses down on the cartridge bay and it stops working again! :grumble:

This is driving me insane. :grrr: What am I doing wrong? This is the second NES whose connector I've replaced and the original worked fine.

See figure 14 specifically. It can kind of slide in 'flush'. It's kind of tricky.

OR your cart snap mechanism is worn out.

Make sure you test it before you put the metal shielding back on. If it is working before you put the metal shielding back on, then you are probably tightening the screws down too hard. If it never works the mechanism is probably broken.
