Hi all!
I've been into this site for AGES, but this is my first post.

I just wanted to give props to Jeff Minter, the man who in the mid-eighties made my adolescence easier to bear (dates me a bit, I know!)

In my estimation, the most creative time for gaming, and the most creative game designer of the perod!

Friends, if you are not aware of this amazing man and his achievements I implore you to get a Commodore 64 Emulator and check him out.

You'll thank me in the long run. ;)

Roger that!

IN addition to all of Mr. Minter's classic previous work, you can keep up with him and his recent and upcoming works at http://www.llamasoft.co.uk/

Just finished reading Minter's story on his website. How depressing that a designer/programmer with his background was struggling for employment! And how depressing that Minter picked the GameCube for his "dream project." From the Jaguar to the Nuon to the Cube -- this man does not have a nose for successful hardware.

Hmmm... I think people will argue over the definition of Gamecube not being successful now ;)

Though certainly it's doing far better than the Konix or Nuon ever achieved

Jeff picked it because it was the easiest to work with to achieve the look and feel that he wanted. Get the hardware to do all the grunt work freeing more time to get the speed going and music running. Trust me, if the final game can run as fast as I've seen it so far, you'll think F-Zero GX is a geriatric footrace...

Jeez, if that ain't true.

"Top ten signs your console is about to fail horribly"
1.) When your system has a Tempest game

Such a shame since it's such a great series.

Anyhow...Llamatron, ran into that one a while back on a Shareware CD (Game Empire, a ton of classic stuff in there like Captain Comic, running in MS-DOS glory no less) from sometime before 1996. The thing that really gets me about Mr. Minter's stuff is it's always hillarious and upbeat.

Hope there's still a place for that in the gaming world, really.

One question of Uncle B, though...what is the story behind your name?

As far as the Atari Jaguar goes, Jeff Minter did have to deal with an unbeatable handicap called "Tramiels."

Heh, it did? How about "When Tempest is the most sought-after game on your platform." Still sounds a bit wrong, though.

In reply to Ed Oscuro, My name is Bryan and I am one of the oldies where I work, thus the nickname 'Uncle B'. Incidentally, I am also an Uncle!
Nice to see Mr. Minter getting some recognition. :)
