I'm looking for some good puzzle games. Here's what I have and what systems I have. Any suggestions are welcome, as my wife wants some puzzle games to play!

I have: Intelligent Qube (PSX), Puzzle Star Sweep (PSX), Tetris (Famicom), Columns 3 (Genesis), Columns (Genesis), Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis), Fantavision (PS2), Super Bust A Move (PS2), Super Monkey Ball (GC), and Puyo Puyo Sun (Saturn).

I have the following systems that I'd want puzzle games for: SMS, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, DC, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Turbo Duo, 3D0, PSX, and PS2. I can't afford a lot of money right now, so I'm looking for fairly inexpensive ones. I know about Mr. Domino, Devil Dice, and Super Puzzle Fighter, and can't afford the last one :)

Any suggestions are welcomed, along with offers to sell/trade Devil Dice, Mr. Domino, etc... !

Thanks,

Nate V.

Nobody ever mentions Pac-Attack, but I like it. I've got it for Genesis, although it may be out on other systems. It's certainly worth a look if you're a puzzle fan.

Rampart, although it isn't strictly a puzzle game, is also worth a look. You can find it on NES, Genesis, SNES, Lynx, and probably more. There's also an arcade version if you're into that sort of thing (I sure would be if I could fit a couple more cabinets in my house).

Dr. Mario is great, I'm surprised you wouldn't have picked that up by now. The N64 version has multiplayer, so it would probably be the better one to pick up. Tengen Tetris or The New Tetris are also good if you like Tetris multiplayer.

On the NES, I really like Dr. Mario, but I LOVE Yoshi's Cookie!!!! That game is sooooooooo addictive!

I have Rampart, but my wife wouldn't like it. As for Dr. Mario, I HATE that game. Never have liked it, never will.

For PSX, check out Roll Away. My wife loves it, and all she ever plays is puzzle games and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

I picked up Mr. Domino because she thought the cover was cute for 14.99 at a grocery store last year. She likes that game too, but finds it 'too fast' sometimes. I'd also check out Spin Jam for PSX, I kind of like it, but not as much as Bust a move. And, if you want variations of Bust a Move, Bust a Move 2: Arcade Edition for PSX is great.

For genesis, I still love Columns 3.

Good luck :)

I'm with VGA... get Mr. Driller!

Another of my favorites is Baku Baku. I have the Game Gear version, but it's also available for the Saturn. Match different animals with the right food as they fall in pairs.

I would consider The Lost Vikings for the Genesis a puzzle game (borderline). I think it's unique. Also, it uses the six button controller.

I too was just going to suggest Baku Baku. The coolest thing about the game is the fact that it plays like a link cable type game, but with many different opponents.
You can also get it for the Sega Master System...but you'd have to get it from Brazil, and you'd probably have to shell out big $$$ in an online auction. Speaking of the Master System, the only puzzle games I can think of for it are Columns, Shanghai, and if you want to import it from Europe- Krusty's fun house.

Here's a few that I like:

NES - Puzznic, Palamedes, and Solomon's Key.

Konami's Dama Puzzle Games - They make these for SNES (Just Tsuyoshi's Puzzle Dama, I believe), Saturn, and PSX. They are like the Puyo Puyo games, but I feel that they are a lot funner...

Break out MAME and Money Puzzle Exchanger

Isn't that a Neo Geo MVS game? I have a SuperNOVA so I could get the original boards if it's good :)

As for everyone's ideas, there are some great ones in there. I know my wife doesn't like adventure style puzzle games like The Lost Vikings, or even Solomon's Key, but she LOVES stuff that's Tetris/Columns style. I've got a short list to check out now, and see if I can find any of em :) Thanks guys! If you have any more suggestions, toss em up here!

KLAX! How could we forget Klax? That was released for a bunch of systems. Cheapest version would probably be NES (Funco sells it for $3).

I'm stunned no one has mentioned Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo! The PSX and Saturn versions are downright amazing and addictive.

I know I mention this everytime one of these threads comes up, but there is a program called RealArcade ( www.realarcadeone.com ) they have all sorts of puzzle games. Most of them have small, free trial downloads that give you one hour of gameplay, I've never used up the entire time on any game. If you want to buy the game, it costs $15-20 per game...

Again, I usually get sick of the game long before that hour of play runs out...and there are so many variations of puzzle games that you probably won't get too bored.

Some of the best are Super Bounce Out, Super Collapse, Candee, Big Money...definitely check it out

Well, it's a good game but I don't know if I agree with this... still...

Digital Press' Al Backiel stated in this month's Game Informer that The Adventures of Lolo is not only the greatest puzzle game ever, but the BEST GAME EVER.

I recently purchased Hatris for the NES. I wasn't expecting much from it and, quite honestly, thought it would be a complete dud. But, I tried it out and found myself playing for hours. It's nearly as addicting as Tetris. So, if you can find it, check out it out.

I mentioned it in my original post, along with saying that I can't possibly afford it right now with what it's going for. It doesn't matter how good it is, cause I just don't have that kind of money to spend right now. My funds level is VERY low...nearly non-existent. But hey...if someone wants to trade a Super Puzzle Fighter for import SFC, PCE, or Saturn games, I'm there! I've got TONS of trade at http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/maxlords/ Anything listed as in stock is available for trade as well :)

A grest and underated puzzle game for the PS1 is Ballistic. It does'nt have a steep learning curve, it's cheap and it's a lot like the Bust a Move series.

Dude, get Panic Bomberman for your Duo. It plays like Tetris with some twists, with some nice graphics (the blocks are replaced with Bomberman heads!), and good strategy, especially in 2 player. I got a burn from Kev a few months ago and never touched it til like a week ago...ended up finding one on eBay for under 20 beans, which is the price most of em go for.

I think I'm the only one in the world that liked Zoom for Genesis.

Baku Baku for Saturn is also tons "O" fun.... O.o

I like Tetris S on the import saturn it's a sleeper for sure . It's like Tetris on Crack really realy good addictive fun. You can score this one on ebay for 20 bucks or under really worth looking into.

On the plus side for the adults I like Yayunken special not really a puzzle game but more of a paper rock Scissors Strip FMV game for the 18+ Crowd. It's one of those party favorites that people laugh at because the dance before they take off a piece of clothing is hilarious.
Worth a look if you want something out of the ordinary.

Thanks

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. Possibly the best head to head puzzler EVER.

Klax

Builder's Block

Bust-A-Move (series)

DEVIL DICE

Achika

Saturn Bomberman

Bust a Move 2 for Saturn
Bust a Move 4 for Dreamcast

The rest are crap IMO. (Bust a Move 99 is basically Bust a Move 3 for saturn)

If you've got the MVS motherboards, I highly suggest Puzzle De Pon, it's on my top 10 favorite games list.

If you have STV motherboards: Hanagumi Taisen Columns (Sakura Wars Columns) MD Gamesales should have some.

PSX
One Piece Mansion
Board Game: Top Shop
Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy
Spin Jam

I agree with 'briskbc' Ballistic is a great game and can also be found as an arcade board. I played it first in the arcade, then found it later at TRU for $20.

N64
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge

DC
Wetrex+
Chu Chu Rocket
Sega Swirl (on Webbrowser v.2)

Hmm...well, besides my abiding affection for Tetris, there's a few really cool puzzlers out there. Puzzle Fighter is terrific; I enjoyed how Capcom managed to squeeze their own niche in the whole Tetris/Puyo Puyo field. Speaking of which, Puyo Puyo 2 is another great one, and can be found on MAME or the SNES. The really competitive versus games can't be beat.

On the portable side, I've always been a sucker for Kemco's Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle games. It originally appeared on the NES, but it seems better suited to the GameBoy; of course, the GameBoy had nothing BUT puzzlers for the longest time. Chip's Challenge on the Lynx is great, like all the early Epyx games, and Shanghai may just be the best game put on that little handheld. If only the Handy emulator had a save function for high scores like MAME.

Chu Chu Rocket definitly has that "screw you" factor when playing with other players.

Outside that I love Dr. Mario and Tetris Attack.

Oh, I can't believe I forgot about Donkey Kong on Game Boy! This is one of the best games ever released for Nintendo's handheld, and it's a great revision of the arcade classic. I've always wondered if Miyamoto was involved in making it.

I agree that Adventures of LoLo for the NES are some of the BEST "Puzzle" games around. Check those out if you haven't already.

Then there are the Boxxle Boy type puzzle games that our out. There are various ones w/ different names out there.. I like the TG-16 one.

Lode Runner is another classic puzzlish-type game.

You know what I've always wondered.. is what's the deal with Puzzle-Bobble? That game just seems more of a shoote/target game than a puzzler to me :?

Mr. Driller is the god of dreamcast/playstation. You must play it.

The magical drop series is fantastic as well. I know it's on Saturn, game boy, neo geo pocket, and of course, the neo geo(imported). It's what I would call the best puzzle ever.

Well, I've managed to pick up these new ones so far...some are on the way, others I'm giving to my wife for X-mas so she won't get to try them until then, but currently, I have recently gotten:

No One Can Stop Mr. Domino
Mr. Driller (PSX...couldn't find the DC one locally)
Adventures of Lolo
Adventures of Lolo 3
Pokemon Puzzle League

That's all I've manged to find for reasonable prices so far. I may pick up the Saturn version of Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo cause it's so much cheaper. I'm not sure what I'll get next...I saw Spin Jam and Roll Away in local stores but was out of $. Maybe next time! :)

For a while now I have been completely addicted to Super Puyo Puyo. If you're anything like me, then stay away from it; it will consume your life. Oh, and yeah, gotta love Klax.
