How good is Protector? From both a playing and a collecting standpoint? There is one up for sale now and I'm wondering just how much is too much for this particular game...

The game is absolutlely amazing.

It's still a homebrew though, and I think anyone who buys homebrews as an investment is crazy. That's just me, though. I wouldn't pay more than $40 on it if I had money to burn. I'm damn stingy, but whatever.

Therein lies the real conundrum. If it's that amazing, I want to play it. I'm a vector game freak. $40 is around if not less than the original price. I am not really worrying about it investment wise, but dude said he has an offer of $110 and I'm not sure I want to pay that.

The only reason the price is that high (and will almost certainly go higher) is because it was only made in a very limiited edition. However, to the best of my knowledge, the author has not ruled out an "unlimited" edition in the future. That's to say nothing about the probability that someone will dump the rom online as well. IIRC the game originally sold for around $50, which included shipping from England. Yeah, it's a sweet game and sweet package but if all you care about is playing the game then I'd hang back. The box doesn't add to the enjoyment of the game and the overlay doesn't add to the enjoyment of the game (I think it looked better without the overlay). There's no game (short of an actual arcade cabinet) that I would spend $100+ dollars on so do with that info as you will...

That's pretty much my thoughts too. There are games I would pay $100 for but this one isn't really one of them. How is Vectrex Emulation, anyway? Is it even close to the real thing?

Care to show a link to see where it is on sale? :)

The game was originally just £25 ($40) and made in a limited number of 100. However to my knowledge there will be a 2-in-1 cart sometime in the future of Protector and YASI (Yet Another Space Invaders) that will be unlimited. So if you want the game, you should probably wait...

I emailed the seller and he said he has an offer of $110. That's too rich for me. Thanks for the info on the multicart, I'll definitely wait for that one.
