Do the Japanese Neo Geo AES systems work here or do you need a special adapter? Will the U.S Neo Geo games work on the system?

The US games are exactly the same in terms of their code, and vice versa--I can play my Japanese Neo Geo carts on my U.S. AES system. You get blood and, ahem, realistic character animation (i.e. bouncy bouncy).

As for whether the system will work--I believe it should, but I'm actually not positive about all the hookups, power and such (though I'm quite certain they will work, I don't want to give a bad recommendation).

I have Japanese AES and theres no probs whatsoever. Unless you consider some games having no langauge option a problem.

I was gonna say, isn't it true that a japanese AES will convert all games to japanese text, including US ones? Isn't it better to get a modded US system?

Yes, because you can set the system to display blood, while still being able to read the text in English :-P ....After thourough playtime on my modded AES now, I can say however that the best feature is the S-Video mod, that has enhanced gameplay the most...but the blood is way cool 8-)

I guess so :) I never minded the lack of Englsih in any games until I got Baseball Stars 2...the players lacked a certain indidviduality without understandable names, if that makes sense.

I did get the "super neo" mod done, and it should be back any day now. Can't wait to try out the new audio /video 8-)

or contack Jeff Kurtz, he's in Neo-Geo.com forum's technical section, simply contact him with emails

and yes, Jp unit will display all Neo Geo games, regardless of the versions, in Jp text of the earlier titles, later games give you the language options so this will not be an issue, but Jp version will have blood as well as Mai's bouncy boobs not seen in US censored version.

There is a slight difference between the US and Japanese power supplies. Not enough that it won't work, but enough that it could concievebly cause a problem if you run your NEO 24/7.

Best bet if you're getting a mod, get the one that lets you switch to whatever region you want. I think they have this for AES, I know they do for MVS. Then you can play in the Europe mode and get all the uncensored stuff AND play it in English. (My MVS is Europe, it's a beatuiful thing.)

Great, thanks! Better than having your machine destroyed, that's what I say.

Just a thought...could you use a US power supply on a Japanese AES? Even farther out there...would it be a bad idea to have a Japanese MVS cab (or heck, any Japanese arcade machine) plugged into the mains over here?

Allow me to give a lil rave for Mr. Kurtz! I just got my Neo back a hour ago, and everything is NICE! Finally being able to play Basebal Stars 2 in English has brought back soooo many memories :D

The Power Indicator is also a cool addition. Its odd that the Neo didnt have one built in. Is it the only console that had absolute no power indicator?

I'll be having multiple orgasms if they ever come out with a Neo Geo CD compatible English Translation patch for Samruai Showdown RPG.

Odyssey 2 doesn't have one, either. Or the top loader NES.

My Turbo Duo has a orange bit that becomes visible when you slide the power switch to "on", but no actual light.
