View Full Version : More than usual selling off?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sure looks to me like more and more members are selling off collections in the past few weeks. Certainly more than we had over the summer. Is this normal in the fall around here or is something going on? I could understand people selling off extras or stuff they don't use but I'm seeing a lot of people selling off the majority if not their whole collections.

Yeah, this is the pre-Xmas pick up in trading and selling. Happens every year. This place seems to be dead during the summer for trading but will be frantic till Dec :)

Hmmm...for me personally, I go in phases - I'll be reaaaaaaaally into a system, collecting for it, playing it to death, then slowly losing interest. Then I'll get involved in another system, and begin parting out the OLD system to buy games/things for my NEW obsession. My collection is in a constant state of flux. :D

overall, i've seen alot of people selling off whole collections......atleast in my eyes......especially nes and snes......but that's my opinion....

i needed to get rid of a few things, clean up a little for the vectrex, mvs converter and shock boxes.

I also think people realize over time that they either:

- collect for the wrong reasons, and stop.
- priorities in life change (family, work, etc)
- realize they're collecting for too many systems and want to go back to their "roots".

#3 is what happened to me and I ended selling all my Sega Genesis collection, most of my SNES and all my game gear stuff.. to go back to my beloved NES!

I tried to sell off my entire NES/SNES stuff, but haven't had much luck outside of piecing it apart in seperate trades. Maybe I'll try again later. I'm with Sniderman on this one, I have phases I go through and systems I really love for various lengths of time. Christmas coming up certainly can't hurt the trading, as people probably need cash for eggnog and christmas presents.

Yea, I've done similar. Lately I've really been trying to trade or sell off all of my extra stuff, and I may be taking it a step further soon. I might be selling off nmy Astrocade and Arcadia soon. Although I think they're both very cool system - probably because I never saw them when they were new, I just never play them. I'm also considering parting with a lot of my SMS collection, but that will wait a while if it happens.

Not me, I'm buying NES stuff for my collection. Trying to close in on those last 40 , before ebay christmas prices kick in.

I have been selling alot of Dupes here though with great response.

Eggnog is like tasty fattening liquid crack :D

I definitely see this pattern every year.

I've always attributed it to - for the same reason I sell stuff at this time of year - massive overcollecting in the summer when it's not only pleasant to go out and hunt but also the season of flea markets and yard sales.

Suddenly it's getting chilly and I'm looking around the house thinking "My GOD. WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!"

So the pruning begins, to make space for X-mas goodies :)

GAME ON!

I'm REALLY thinking about quitting my piece of shit job and going back to school full time, so I may be selling off even more stuff. As in almost everything besides the MVS and CPS2 stuff

As for the stuff I'd been selling recently, well CPS2 and MVS carts/kits can get expensive when you can't stop buying them. :)

Replace "Vectrex" with "16-bit systems" and this is my exact thing too.

debating which of the two to keep for pre-NES as well: Coleco or Atari 2600

What, there's too much buying and selling now? What part of having a lot of people you can trust selling outside of eBay is it you don't like exactly?

I'm guessing the competition for buying.

I don't know about the rest of you. But I need the money. I had so many things go wrong this past year you simply would not believe it. Here is a short list of what died on me in the last 12 months.

2 VCRs
DVD Player
Sound Card
Printer
Video Card
IEEE 1284 card
Printer cable
MODEM
Hard Drive
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse

I'm just affraid my TV is going to die next...

Or selling. Threads get buried quicker. I'm not complaining though!

I guess I'm the opposite of most of you in that I find better stuff in the fall thru spring timeframe (Arizona weather - go figure). I also try not to buy lots of duplicates - unless its a bargain and I know I can part with it quickly.

BTW, I am looking for Odyssey2 stuff, mostly the harder to find US stuff and any games from Brazil.
Have a coupla extra Demon Attack carts for the Odyssey2 also.

I'm with Sniderman, my collection is always in flux because of interest and time. This last month I've sold about $400 worth of Atari 5200 stuff and bought about $300 worth of Atari computer stuff. Also let go of some rarer stuff I had that was collecting dust because I wanted to save up for a new product coming out for the Atari 7800 (Cuttle Cart II) :D

WOW!

Either you have some serious electrical issues at your place, or you've been shopping at the little cash-only korean store around the corner too much! :D

Not that my computer is 8 years old and the rest was 3 years old or older. Things die.

chadtower

I go through that too. When you use older stuff most of the time it dies a lot more often.

I've been kicking around the idea of selling/trading off my Intellivision collection for a while now. Ianoid already got my system changer. If someone is looking for a pretty good sized Intv setup let me know and I'll see about getting a list together. I would want to trade for a Gamecube setup or sell it all complete.
