I can't think of the exact name of these things, and I realize that I might be the last person here to know of the existance of these things, but I just wanted to share and ask if anyone has bought them.

While waiting in line at my local EB yesterday to pick up my pre-order of Railroad Tycoon 3, I noticed they had these two things I had'nt seen before. It was a sealed package with a Atari joystick, and a slightly thicker base, and a set of A/V cables. The package said that the joystick contained the code for 10 Atari games, games like Asterorids, Missle Command, Yar's Revenge, and others. You just plugged the joystick into your TV and played. It seemed like a great idea, but $25 seemed a little steep to me and I wonder how good the joystick is.

I saw another one, this time containing 5 arcade games -- I recall Pac Man being one and Bosocian being another. Kind of a arcade like joystick, same price.

I wonder if these would make good trade bait at the meet this weekend. 8-)

I wouldn't imagine they'd be all that great as trade bait since they're easy to get and not all that cheap anyway.

Ii'm not sure if they'd make good tradebait, just depends on the person really. I think these are pretty common fare at most Gamestops and other game shops. I think the "pressed for time" article on the main page's left frame reviewed on a while back if you want to check into that :D.

Direct to TV, fun.

Looks like it could well be a hallmark of future games. Nintendo's I-Que Player (for China) is essentially a N64 joystick with all the hardware (more powerful than a N64 I might add) pushing the joystick off to the left, from what I can tell. Kenshin Dragon Quest is almost an all-in-one, but it's really a whole console in and of itself. You can get an internet adapter for that one, fun :D

I like the one at Wal-Mart with pac-man , dig-dug, etc.

When you can get a 2600 with 50 carts at a flee for $10-20 why get the Atari one.. but the others are cool.. I wish the Namco one wasn't so clumbsy.

I don't know about your area, but around here you'd be hard pressed to find a loose (and by loose I mean console only, no power supply, joysticks or RF box) 2600 for under $10 and carts for less than $2 a pop, assuming you could find either.

Another nice thg is that it's just the joystick -- good for small spaces.
