I don't buy games NEW anymore. What games are "must haves" from the recent crop of releases?

I rarely ever buy new games (I buy about one $50 game a year), but I had to break down this week and buy Top Spin tennis. After playing if for a few hours, I knew it was money well spent. Best tennis game ever. (yes...even better than Virtua Tennis!).

I want Top Spin something fierce, but the lure of a new vehicle is keeping me from buying anything at the moment.

Looks like most of the games I want will be on my Christmas/Birthday list. :D

Hmm.

I've been digging these lately:

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, SSX 3, Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero GX, and I hear that Jak II is great.

I know that Need for Speed: Underground will kick ass on November 18th. :D

Do homebrews count as new games? Other than those, I haven't bought a 'new' game since the N64 first came out.

I can't afford to buy games new, especially not every week. I did buy viewtiful joe new, but there were mitigating circumstances.

Rygar (PS2) and Ball Breakers (PS)

I'm looking forward to sitting down with a sack of Nut Poppers while I play Ball Breakers. Maybe I'll wash it down with some Mello Yello.

I'm gettin the new smackdown tomorrow, seeing as how if SYM is any indication, the price won't drop for at least a year.

Well, I got Railroad Tycoon 3 for full price this week for the PC -- the sequel to one of the BEST Sid PC games ever made. And this game is a blast as well.

My planned buys for next month are Fire Emblem for the GBA, Victoria and Crusader Kings for the PC, and MGS: Twin Snakes for the GC.

Nothing.

Last week I got Crimson Skies. Best next gen game in a LONG time, and I haven't even played online yet.

i bought tony hawks underground- and even though i was bitching about it- it is well worth the 50$ price if you liked the previous versions. even with its flaws- it is still an amazing game.

The last game I got was Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, and that was on Saturday. So, I got nothing for this week. If I had the cash, I'd get F-Zero GX and then Viewtiful Joe. But Castlevania and Rush come first. Speaking of which, I got Vapor Trails. :rocker:

Being middle class really bites sometimes.

I 'spose that I'll buy Shining Soul on GBA this week.

It's funny. I spent a few years in the vid-game business and immersed myself in DC, PS2, Cube, XboX etal.......now I think I can say that I'm burned out on all of the modern game trappings......which is why I showed up and joined you guys here at DP. (I'm aka Merlin at VM, Joe)

I get more of a kick out of paying $3 for a Genesis or NES game than I do paying today's prices for modern games. $70 bucks (Canadian) vs $3 bucks...it's kinda a no-brainer as to where my wallet is happiest. When I find an "A-list" title for my retros in good condition with box and instructions, I'm way happy for days.

Mario Kart: Double Dash
Ninja Gaiden

I don't usually buy new games at full price but every now and then new games are released at discount prices. For instance, I picked up Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution for $19.99 new when it came out. And just this week I took a chance at a "B" game by picking up Celebrity Deathmatch for $19.99 new.

Playing as Ron Jeremy is funny as hell. LOL

Probably, the only new game I got was THUG for PS2. Haven't stopped playing the game since I bought it after playing MechAssault for a while. :D

I think the newest game I have is Tron 2.0. I've just purchased several games recently including FFX, Sly Cooper, and Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, but those aren't new releases.

The only new game I'm eagerly anticipating is DEUS EX: INVISIBILE WAR

Everything else is probably going to leave me cold unless they warm me up with a price of $30 or less.

EDIT: I just downloaded the trailer for DX: Invisible War, and OH MAN this is going to ROCK! You can have your MGS and FF games - man...when that terrorist guy opened his little capsule and FWOOSH!!!

I'd say Viewtiful Joe and Boktai are both must-haves from the recent releases. I also recently bought Shining Soul, but haven't bothered to open it, and the same goes for the new Buffy for X-Box.

As for upcoming must-haves.....for me: Deus Ex: Invisible War, Onimusha Tactics, and Fire Emblem. That's pretty much it.
