View Full Version : Do You Own any Videogame Related "one-of-a-kinds"?

Do you own anything videogame related that NO ONE ELSE has? This doesn't necessarily have to be some rare and priceless artifact - it could also be something that was custom made or designed for you specifically.
Here are two examples, one from each category.
Atari 2600 8-in-1 Prototype - I can't actually guarantee that this is a one-of-a-kind item, but it's the only one known to exist (it's been in the CGE museum for three years now). This was to be a late-release 2600 game by Atari with 8 older titles on it. They did release a 32-in-1 in Europe which employs much the same technology.
Space Fury Guy Mask - You may have seen this in my game room or even at a Digital Press booth in the past. It's rarely worn and was originally created using the ColecoVision version of the alien commander from the Sega arcade game. It was designed by a professional mask maker in 2001 for the ten year anniversary of Digital Press.

It's not one of a kind, but it's damn low (probably single digits) production, and I don't know how many others there actually are, but I have one of these:

I have some promo cards from the Bandai Intellivision's release in Japan. They may not be one of a kind, but it's as close as I get with my paltry collection. I've never seen them elsewhere, and would love to have any information if anyone knows about them.

Nothing to brag about here :D
Just that HP-95lx handheld, but that's not a gaming machine. It would make a rather poor GameBoy; imagine any problems you might have with the N-Gage's keys and imagine instead a keyboard made up of late-80s style plastic rectangular keys (thankfully rounded on the edges) and each key being less than a centimeter across. Not the hardest machine to use, but far from the easiest.

I've got a boxed, with instructions, AND with original send-in coupon for Chase the Chuck Wagon.
I've never heard of anyone else ever who has it complete and has the coupon. I've only heard of one or two other complete versions without the coupon. I've never even heard of anyone else having the coupon.
Oh, I got a bunch few protos too, but there are likely multiples out there of most of them.

Also a Super Mario Bros Kraft Dinner promotional poster from Kraft. I got this one in 1989-90 and it have different scenes from SMB 1. I dont know anybody else who have this.
Finally, my NES "Hot Seat Game chair". (listed in the DP addendum)

I jUst remembered something:
I used to have a Final Fantasy II poster for the US release of the NES version, which as we all know never came out. It was a letter size poster/promo thing that I puked on once by accident when I was 14. It was one of those things that were sent to stores to hang in the window to promote upcoming games.
God I kick myself for that now...

Quite a few limited edition games for a couple of systems. I have a Smash Controller boxed that is used with Whack-a-Critter and the only copy I have ever heard of for the 32X Ecco CES demo. My custom-made mini-Supergun which uses Geneis controllers and outputs to a multitude of sources. It will remain one of a kind since I am too lazy to make more :)

It contains 16 different titles all between 8-10 on the DP rarity scale.

Up until NJ Classic, I had one of only three boxed "game-that-shall-not-be-named"s. (Long story that shan't be embellished here.)
But as for braggin' rights, I have a birthday card signed by most of the main Mods and pals here at Digital Press - as well as signed by one Mr. Nolan Bushnell. That there is a framed above my collection keeper.

Hmm . . . I think that my Trouble Shooter prototype might be the only one of its kind. As far as I can tell, though, the game is the same as the released version, making it unique only in its construction.
I also wonder if this Battle Mania II cartridge of mine is all alone in the world.
http://www.kidfenris.com/battlemaniaboot1.jpg
It could be someone's pet project, but I suspect it's just another overseas bootleg, and thus not one-of-a-kind.
And yes, I am king of the Trouble Shooter/Battle Mania fanboys.

Hmmmm. Let's see here.
John Dondzila "Amok" cart for the O2 with my name encoded into the startup screen.
Haunted House II 3D for the Atari 5200 - one of three existing prototype pre-release copies; got this for doing the artwork for the original CGE2002 release (someone else's artwork is on all the post-CGE copies for some reason).
Backfire for the Atari 2600 - cart and manual autographed by Chad Lare, again for doing the artwork.
A pair of Wico bat-style joysticks for the Odyssey2 - I don't know how many of these there are out there. They do work, too.
Wico trackball for the Odyssey2 - one of only two known to exist (but I'm thinking there's gotta be more - you don't do a production run, in foil-printed boxes, and only make two of the bloody things); bought this off of the guy who had it at OKGE.
Kick upright coin-op - #1348 of a manufacturing run of only 1500-1600 before Midway repackaged it as Kickman.
This does not include items that I have made for myself either...quite a few oddities there, including the world's only Super Pac-Man action figure. LOL
When I went and thought about it, I've got a pretty nice little stash of one-of-a-kinds. I'm paid pleased with 'em. :)

I found the demo in a mass of eproms and pieced the whole thing together. Originally I was only able to get 4 of the eproms to match up but another 2-3 days of playing with eproms and I found the other 4. So....I do have the whole code on original eproms backed up and then distributed but unfortunately I cannot get it to play on the eprom boards I have even though the emulator plays it perfectly. It is just a technology demo more than anything else with a loop of animation that continously runs. With only 4 eproms it ran but only about 60% of the loop was there and it would crash after that. Hope that helps,
Alan

Found a 2600 Tapper prototype at a Wisconsin rummage sale this summer...no one else has claimed having another.
Also found what seems to be the only Sears version of the Atari 2600 POP (point-of-Purchase)Demo console in existence at a Flea a few years ago. The standard 2600 demo console games are there, but have the Sears game names when they differ...also has the added bonus of the 3 Sears exclusive 2600 games.

This isn't video game related but I felt compelled to mention it anyway.
About four years ago I stopped by a garage sale and noticed an interesting looking trunk. It had a piece of tape on the top that said $50. The trunk was one of those run of the mill military looking trunks.
Inside the trunk was a full-sized, professionally made Cap'n Crunch costume. I collect a lot of 80's crap and thought this was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. Not only is it heavily padded, but around the waist it has combo battery pack/fans. I asked the lady who was selling it and she said she didn't know anything about it, wanted to get rid of it, and said she would take $20.
Through the web I found a couple of General Mills fansites and none of them had heard of anything like this. I finally was able to get a response from General Mills themselves and they said they had no idea where it came from. They said that occasionally they did promotional appearances and they thought that maybe it was made for one of those, but they weren't aware of any of them ever being made.
Anyway, I thought I'd throw that out. Unfortunately the suit is made for someone about 5'9 and I'm 6'0, so it's impossible for me to really wear. Right now it still sits in that trunk, in my closet, until I can find someone who knows where in the world this thing came from. Ahoy, mateys!

I have a terrible headache tonight..
I do have this Analog Dual Shock PS controller that is "white" not off white..
Still in it's Japanese package..
I got this controller from someone who worked within Sony..(long story)
I got this controller before the Analog Dual Shock PS controllers were released to stores in Japan and the Dual Shock system..
(I checked on that at the time)
I don't believe it's one of a kind..but I've never seen another in "White".
I would like to find out that there are others now.
I think the Atari 2600 Cart Refrigerator magnets that I made are one of a kind though.. :P

As far as I know, I own the only picture label for the Sears Atari 2600 release, Tank-Plus. To my knowledge, this game was produced with text labels only. But I found a pic label in a small group of 2600 labels I bought from an eBay seller. They are adhesive labels on non-stick sheets of paper, and they look completely genuine. Tank-Plus is the only unusual one in the bunch. Here's a picture (http://www.atariage.com/common/image.html?ImageName=/2600/carts/c_Sears_TankPlus_Picture_front.jpg) I submitted to AtariAge.
I own a video of the SCTV comedy troupe performing at a North American Philips company party in 1983. They actually perform skits based on Odyssey2 games! Once I get a video capture card, I'll be posting some clips on my site.
I have some promo items that may not be unique, but I don't know anyone else who has them. I have a little metal medallion promoting Activision's Grand Prix on the 2600, and a (bent and nonfunctional) penlight that promotes Megamania. I also have a counter-top standee that promotes the 2600 game Raiders of the Lost Ark.

well nothing that is technically one of a kind. but last year i made a find that truely has to be a once in a lifetime shot. i went to the local store that had nintendo games as i grew up, because about a year ago i wanted to get back into gaming. i scanned what they had and did some research on ebay. and i discovered that new(sealed) nintendo games were worth quite a load at the time. besides the fact that i bought ever single game they had(including old rentals) here is a run of the good stuff, all sealed....
Excitebike
Kung Fu(3 copies!)
Ninja Gaiden(3 copies again!)
Ninja Gaiden II(3 copies....)
DD 1
DD 2(7 copies LOL )
Mega Man 3(2 copies)
and that's it for the exciting stuff, i picked all of the stuff up at different times for different prices because the people there are real funny. they don't close out things, they want until you have to wipe the dust off things to find out what they are......then pay retail price from when it was new. i tried my best to convince these people that they weren't worth anything anymore LOL .....and i feel justified because they've shafted me numerous times. but for all those games....i paid about $150-200. and a couple hundred for the other games i got from them(300 nes games total) but i sold most of them, the good ones so i could support other collecting areas as sealed things isn't really my bag. i ended up with about 6 grand, 75 dvd's, and about 50 games left(sealed ones anyways) and i still have some semi-one of a kind things. i have a sealed copy of castlevania II and Karate kid left......and a couple other semi rare sealed games that will just continue to get more and more one of a kind. or atleast i think they will unless somebody is willing to pay me top dollar for them. blahhhhhhh done typing, everything else i have is common, or so i think :hmm:

I have this weird cord that has at one end a serial (or possibly parrallel) male pin connector, and it splits into a female mini stereo jack, a female SNES controller port, a male SNES AV plug, and some other plug I don't recognize. I assume it plugs into a SNES dev box but I've yet to confirm my suspicions.

As a fan of the art of "Cosplay", I have a few things that I managed to put together, modify or altogether construct myself.
Scorpion Costume (From Mortal Kombat II & Mortal Kombat 3/4) - Complete with his trademark "Get Over Here" spear.
Richter Belmont Costume (From Castlevania: Dracula X) - a 'real life' version of Richter, with customized 'Vampire Bane" gauntlet gloves and even the legendary version of the "Vampire Killer" with either light plastic chains or full steel chain links.
Hunk "The 4th Survivor" Costume (From Resident Evil 2) - a 'real life' version of the Umbrella Operative complete with operational gas-mask, modified kevlar "Shock Helmet" and custom made "Shock Armor", complete with Umbrella Insignias.
Want to see some of the costumes? Check out my Cosplay Lab profile.

As for other unique items, I have a custom made 'certificate of appreciation' from an undisclosed Marvel Comics Artist which I received back when I was in high school (Senior Year, 1994-95) which could only be obtained by participating in Marvel / Acclaim's "Paint The Town Well Read" reading program which was also used to promote the SNES/Genesis game "Maximum Carnage". In order to obtain this certificate, you had to get your school teacher to sign a form stating that you had read a certain amount of books. Then you had to have the certificate sent directly to your school and forwarded to your classroom in c/o your teacher/principal. If I remember correctly, it took about a good two months for this certificate to arrive. Still, I can't complain, since it was free at the time and ultimately, uniquely made just for me.

Well, nothing that NO ONE else has, but some stuff that VERY FEW people have. Several different versions of original beta disks for Disney's Ultimate Ride, Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe, & Ultimate Ride Disney Coaster, all for PC. I could even get them autographed by the producer, if I wanted to. I was a beta tester for all 3 games, so I know there's no more than 100 of each of these disks in the world, if there's even that many. I don't know if that gives them any real value to a collector or not though. There are a few things on some of them that didn't make it into the final release versions of the games though, so surely that must make them worth something. Oh yeah, and I make my own MODs for these games constantly too, so until I release them to the fans, I have the only copies of whatever I'm working on in existence. But I wouldn't really count that as one-of-a-kind stuff though, even if it is, because it's nothing that was ever made by the developers themselves. Anybody can make MODs if they try, and lots of people do, so it's not exactly the same thing as some rare prototype beta cart or something.

I think because the box is made from crappy materials, it does break very easily.

Atari 2600 VCS:
8 in 1 (selfmade?) [looks selfmade, so its the only one I know. The games are: 0 Starmaster, 1 Air Sea Battle, 2 Minigolf, 3 Video Pinball, 4 Space Invaders, 5 Defender, 6 Missile Command, 7 Donkey Kong]
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Prototype) [ROM is different, not know if other Prototypes ROMs from this game are the same. Gameplay is the same]
TAZ (Prototype) [no TAZ in the Titlescreen, only the copyright]
Okie Dokie #89/100 (with manual) [with the special Easteregg for every number]
Qb Special Edition 78/100 (complete) [number in the ROM I think]
And some other Homebrews Limitd Editions and Reproductions Limited Editions, but there maybe nothing different in the ROM. And maybe some Prototypes, where I have no ROM from.
NES:
Crystalis (Prototype) [ROM is different and maybe something in the gametext. Not sure, if someone else have this different Prototype]
SNES:
Starwing Competition (German PAL) [after some search on boards I have found no other German Version. Some own the english PAL version, and there exist maybe a French version. But I know noone else who own this is german. But it exist maybe somewhere more from this version]

I own a dummy camera controller that was put together by Ralph Baer when he was trying to develop a spy game. The back of the camera has an NES controller template and an NES controller cord is attached to it.

My claim to fame is a boxed Atari 2400 that I got flamed about when asking on the Atariage forums. (apparently I faked it, which I did not)
I still don't think anyone beleives me :(

well, that mega drive six-pack cart i own still seems to be a one-of-a-kind, though i don't think it really is, noone else on this board (and several others boards) owns it :)
I´ve read the post and the topic about the six games cart. This is a late release cart of the European Megadrive, with both Megagames 1 and 2 with some variations. I´m Spanish, and I´ve seen this cart lots of times here, and a Mega Games 1 variation with that style, so is not that rare on Europe, but it may be on the USA.

Stop me if you've heard this one before..
Actually, let me know if you have one of these too.
First is a Super NES Control Deck Tester. Used by Licensed "Nintendo World Class Service" professionals to well, test your SNES. It's very cool and neat to try out.

There's also a crudely "captured" video of it in action on that page.
I've only heard about one other instance of someone owning this thing and that was on a really old web page I found in Google. So unless that page belongs to one of you, I'd say I'm one of the only people with one of these.
Next I have a Photo Printer removed from a Pokémon Snap Kiosk. It's neat with video input that allows you to print from many sources. I THINK it can also output to stuff other than paper, but haven't played with it enough.

Both were gotten off eBay.

Wow! That doesn't look like a Rob Landeros piece (to me, anyway), so was it outsourced or what? I'm not terribly familar with what team was working on the 11th hour.
In any case...there is certainly only one of those :)

I have a moon alien (part 2) cocktail table.. Id take pics if anyone was interested, not a one of a kind but possibly the only functionaly unit left around hehe.. it's a galaxian clone and although it's not minty and probably not too valuable, it's still a fun showpiece

Yeah, we know that the MegaGames comps are pretty common (there's 6 versions in the Megadrive list (www.digitpress.com/lists/megadrive.pdf)) but while the 'Six Pack' version of 'MegaGames 6 Vol. 2' is far from one-of-a-kind, it's seems to be the rarest Euro variation. As far as I know, it was only sold in Germany and Austria.
Or are you saying that you've seen this 'Six Pack' version many times in Spain?

I am suprized anyone took notice being its not exactly console based.
The old landlord was left with some stuff after the tenets left owing quite a bit of rent. This was the best of what wasn't thrown out. They were going to keep it but it was "spooking out" all the new clients who came to check out the space for rent.
The painting is unsigned but there is a plaque on the frame. I would guess it was outsourced and it resembles the cover quite a bit. So which came first the chicken or the egg?
It only arrived at the local wherehouse today so I have yet to examine it first hand. Next week I'll get a chance to read the plaque and see if that brings any new facts to light.
Truth be told,my wife actually found and bought it for me this Christmas. Gunna be hard to top this one next year. I'm not exactly easy to shop for but she just made it worse. LOL
I think we got a great deal on it ($500.00 shipped) but now what do I do with it. This thing is a monster. Who lives in Cleveland and wants to help me move this thing.

I won a label design contest for "Borgwars Asteroids" over at AtariAge.
I didn't like the design that won (I entered a LOT of labels) so I asked
for a custom cart with my Fave label :D
Only 1 of a kind I think I'll ever own :(

i dont know how many people are going to look at this anymore, but i have a boxed heartbeat personal trainer sega genesis system with outback joey. its got a split controller so the d pad can be on one side of the workout equipment and the buttons can be on the other. also has a heart monitor and the console is rubber coated so its sweatproof. it was sent to a radio station for a prerelease test and was apparently never released...
know anyone else who has one of these?
