OK, I'm stuck between 2 TV's. 2 obviously cut and pastes below:
Sony 43" Rear-Projection High-Definition Television Monitor
Model: KP-43HT20
Enjoy the amazing picture provided by 1080i capability, V-compression and DRC. Digital Reality Creation (DRC) circuit upgrades standard TV signals (480i) to near-HD quality (480p or 960i).
OR
Panasonic 47" Widescreen Rear-Projection HDTV Monitor with 2-Tuner Picture-In-Picture
Model: PT-47WX42
If you love DVDs (or plan to watch HDTV broadcasts), put your money where the picture goes with this 16:9 monitor. With 2-tuner PIP, it's wide enough for two shows at once without squinting.
Obviously, the Sony brand is a lot better. But I really would rather have a widescreen, and the 2 tuner picture in picture adjustable sizes helps as well. (Think 2-25" screens next to each other with her shows, and his shows :)
I just can't decide. I WANT a Sony, but they don't have a reasonable 47" widescreen HDTV available. And I HAVE heard good things about the panasonic 47".... Decisions decisions...

Neither... get a flat panel display. MUCH better picture quality.

If your talking Plasma then forget about that. That technology has been proven crappy. People are complaining about dead pixels and burn in and the displays are expected to burn out after 4-6 years (washout) Everyone is going to LCD technology but Plasma's only selling feature right now is that it's big (for now.)
Anyone who has seen a Plasma display can see it's got an infierior picture, it's just cool because it's thin.

Plasma is too damned expensive. Both of the TV's above are about $1500.00 That's expensive enough

Check out audioreview.com for some good reviews. I really would base your decision on that. Also, if you buy a 4:3 tv you are not getting true 1080i resolution out of HD. You need a 16:9 to do that. So if you plan on using it for HD or 480p for that matter, don't get a 4:3 tv. Try and find a store that has them sitting side by side, and you will certainly be able to tell the difference. The Sony 4:3 is a nice TV but if plan on doing 480p or 1080i, get a 16:9. You will be much happier in the long run.

I've seena lot of good reviews on the panasonic (Including audioreview.com I think) But the Sony brand, to me, NO DOUBT makes the best televisions.
They also have the glass portective screen on the sony, and I have NOT been able to find a place to order them, besides a LOT of reviews saying "The panasonic doesn't come with a glass protective screen, but it can be bought"
But I have NEVER seen a place to order said protective glass screen (Even if there is a reflection, I WANT that glass screen.)

Wberdan is really up on this kind of stuff, I'd wait and get his .02 on the subject :)
FWIW, I've been interested in going the projector route. They're currently a bit more pricey ($3000 and up) than the TVs you mentioned, but you get a bigger, hi-res picture from a much smaller box. They have input slots for everything - digital TV, cable, RCA, component, S-video, etc., etc., keystone correction, and high powered bulbs that give you a *very* clear picture even in broad daylight. If you have a fairly texture free white wall to project it onto, you wouldn't even need a screen.

Check out www.avsforum.com also, these guys are the real experts on home audio and video. They should be able to steer you to the TV you should be most happy about. Please don't base your decisions on brands, some of the sony tv's are great (XBR Tube TV's) and some are real crap. I think just about every brand is that way. Let the picture and real information make the decision for you.

the projector route is awsome if you play games in the dark. only problem with pojectors is that the black can only be as black as the wall, so watching with the lights on is not so good.
