I won some auctions for some Odyssey 2 game lots. When I received the games there were a few that had english & french names, from Canada and France. Some of the games even came in hard plastic cases, as opposed to those cheap cardboard ones. Anyways, I received these games:

1. Munchkin Glouton et voraces Super-Mampfer Happelaar Gufferen (The cart is marked VIDEOPAC 38 made in France by Philips and came in a plastic case. The instruction manual and case are marked K.C. Broyefer! aka K.C. Munchkin! Instruction manual has multiple languages (Euro). This is the Expanded Memory Version.

2. Monkeyshines! aka Singeries! 591964-28 AB943. May be made by Magnavox? Instructions are only in English. Also in plastic case.

3. Alpine Skiing aka Ski Alpin! 591964-21 AK9418. Seperate instructions, English and French. Made by Magnavox. Came in cardboard case.

4. Alien Invaders-Plus! aka Envahisseurs Extra-Terrestres! 591964-16 AA9428. Seperate English & French instructions. Made by Magnavox. Also came in cardboard case.

The DP Guide does list the first one with a rarity and value of R4/$20
The other 3 are listed but may appear to be different versions than what is there. Fore example Monkeyshines is there R2/$10 but its the Philips version. Mine appears to be made by Maganvox.

My questions are, Is there a market for these? Does anyone collect them? Does anyone know what the other three are? The last two appear to be the Canadian versions. The first one is Euro. The second one comes in a case like the first one, but the instructions are only in English (but the names are english and french).

Thanks

In that lot, you have a cross-section of how Odyssey2 games were released in Canada. (Note: this info below comes only from my own observations and may not be 100% accurate).

Let's start with your cardboard box games. These are just U.S. releases with a French-langage manual inserted, since Canada has such a large French-speaking population. Originally the French Canadian cardboard boxes came with a bilingual cardboard slipcover. The slipcovers had to be removed before you could open the box, so most of them were probably thrown away.

Now, the plastic box games... these are repackages of how the games were distributed in Europe. Philips distributed them in clear plastic boxes through which you can see the manual cover. The manual cover thus becomes the "cover" of the box. It seems that in Canada, Philips took a plastic box, stuck in a U.S. (English) manual and a French manual, and a little insert sheet that shows both French and English titles to serve as the box cover. Your Monkeyshines would have come with a French manual and insert sheet originally.

The Munchkin cart you describe sounds like the version distributed in Europe. For some reason, it seems that some European Munchkin carts were distributed in Canada (at least I've seen a lot of Canadian eBay auctions that contain the European version of Munchkin). "K.C. Broyefer!" is the French Canadian title of the game, so apprently yours includes the French Canadian manual. Euro carts have titles printed in multiple languages ("Munchkin" is English, "Super-Mampfer" is German, "Gufferen" is Dansk, etc.)

You can find cardboard versions of K.C. Munchkin/Broyefer in Canada too.

As to whether there is a market for these, I don't know. The games are the same as those from the U.S., so probably not. But if you're an insane Odyssey2 collector like me, there is. If you're interested in trading, PM me. I might want that Ski Alpin.
