well I was sorting through an old cd binder and the nostagia hit me like a brick. I wanted to hear what everyone else was playing on their PC during that golden age where DOS was dying and WIN95 was coming into its own (so lets say between 92 and 97). These are the games that were for the 486 to first gen pentiums.

here's the games that destroyed my youth.

Day of the Tentical
Crusader: No Remorse/Regret
Cybermage
Quarantine
Fallout (little late but I cant leave it out)
Burn:Cycle
Blade RUnner
Curse of Monkey Island
Interstate '76
GTA
The Legend of Kyrandia (1-3)
Riven
Starship Titanic
Under a Killing Moon

I've always been more of a PC gamer then a console one, so the ammount of games that were great during that time is just WAY too freakin big. LOL

I can tell you the games that I liked the most, that I still play, and that I spent the most ammount of time on --

The Civilization series
The X-Com series
The Command and Conquer series
System Shock 1 and 2
The 'five star general' series
Numerous Civil War and WWII games

Heroes of Might & Magic
Celtic Tales: The Evil Eye of Balor
Master of Orion (I, II)
Commander Keen 4-6
and so on and so forth.

whoops put spellcraft on there twice. It was a fine game!

I'll add Lemmings 2: The Tribes and the sidescrolling Duke Nukem games to the list.

'92 might be a little late, but I'd add all the King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, and Hero's Quest games. Played them all, liked them all. I know I also played a lot of Delta V, Mortal Kombat I/II/III, Tie Fighter, and others during that era.

I have fond memories growing up on Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3-D, and an little FMV ditty called Brain Dead 13. Man, that game was hilarious! I never beat it, though.

oh ya, I couldnt agree more. I was a diehard sierra (and lucas... and then they turned into the star wars company). Dont forget Leasure Suit Larry. The only ones I didnt get a chance to play were kings quest 7 and the last leasure suit larry.

I blame VG&CE and Game Players from pulling me into the PC era. I was happy with my CoCo and then I had to see games like Starflight, Test Drive, F18 Stealth Fighter, Lightspeed...hell ANY Microprose game. Got my CGA/Herc amber monitor driven 8088 and I was sucked into PC nirvana for a number of years. Even THEN games were dirt cheap-I quickly rounded up the entire Police Quest and Space Quest series for $10 a pop between Musicland and Prange Way. Wal-Mart sold the next wave of addiction (Lightspeed, F15 Strike Eagle II, Covert Action) for the same price a piece. All ran well with limited color and a 10 MHz turbo-ed processor.

Then they had to release Wing Commander, damn Origin. Then I had to get a VGA card and monitor (though props to Origin as that forced me to learn how to tear apart, configure, and troubleshoot PCs-nothin' like dip switches) followed by a gracious Sound Blaster 8 bit card for Christmas (thanks Pa!). Then with a larger cash flow (and some weird factor that I was in hardware competition with my Dad who got a Wang 386 computer) and a new Sears card I just HAD to get that 486 SX 25 Packard Bell so I could play even more games like Tie Fighter.

Ah, memories.
