The only thing that i maybe would pay 200 for is Stadium Events, but thats only if i complete my NES collection with it. Other than that, i just laugh and move on.

I think this is the same one that went for around $1k last year from postcardmary.
I'd like to know where you get those display boxes shown in the bottom pic. I could use some!

I should also mention the scanner is causing
some very minor creases or indentations on the box
to look much worse than they really are,
It seems to me that if I wanted $1,200 for something I'd find a way to take the most accurate picture I could and not complain about my scanner.

Don't you folks remember?
I sold one of these on eBay earlier this year. Boxed and "partially sealed" (ring a bell?) and it went for nearly $1400. An infrequent member of our forums, "landsmarra" won it.
I would have had at least a $1200 reserve if I were selling what he's selling. When I sold mine there was no precedent - so I set my reserve very low at $500 and let the collector's determine the actual value.

Yeah, but $1200 isn't even the RESERVE! It's just the starting bid! I just think that's too nuts.
ps- he obviously has "high" expectations for this auction
This game in its boxed condition is one of
certainly no more than 10 known to exist
and should rank up there with other
impossible to find boxed games that
have recently sold in the 3k range
$3,000? I just can't see it.

He mentioned on Atariage that the reserve is set at what he paid for it. I believe it's a little less than the one Joe sold. If there's a reserve, it really doesn't matter where he starts the bidding at does it? He could do a $1 starting bid with a $1375 reserve it's no different than a $1200 opening bid with $1375 reserve. The result is the same, but he will only see hardcore collectors going after it with this opening bid, rather than have a bunch of people bidding & asking questions who aren't going to come close to the reserve with a low opening bid.
Plus if the reserve isn't met, he will at least have one bidder who was interested in it at the $1200 start, & he could still work out a deal outside of ebay.
And those cases are sweet! I asked about them too, I would like a few for my collection eventually. Here's what he said about the cases:
I picked up those display boxes up at a collectors show, they have acrylic window and are very well made using a black textured material for covering over wood. They come in a longer version that hold two boxes very nicely ( Miner 2049er 1 & 2 ). The game cart is also in the same type of box. I bought 10 and got them for like 3.00 ea.

Yes everything you said is true. BUT if he starts it out a $1 then the listing fee is MUCH cheaper. @_@

I'm not an expert, but I thought that the listing fee was based on the reserve price if you had one. So, the actual starting price makes no difference. Am I incorrect?

Yes you are incorrect. It goes by the starting price for the listing fee. Adding a reserve just cost a few cents more.

I wish it was a few cents :( I think you misread CueWarrior there. ;)
The listing fee goes by the starting price, UNTIL you add a reserve. Then it's a totally different animal. Use to be there was a flat fee on reserves, in addition to the starting bid price, that was refunded once the reserve was met. If the reserve wasn't met you lost that money, if it was met, it was refunded so it only cost you the initial insertion fees on the opening bid price.
Now it's basically going by the reserve price that you set, not the opening bid. If you add a reserve price to a low value opening bid the actual insertion fees go up on the opening bid as well as the addition of the reserve fee. They still refund the reserve, but you are paying basically a higher insertion fee to start, in fact It's cheaper just to start the auction off higher than to use a low price w/reserve.

Sorry I have only sold things with a reserve under $100.00.
It's only like $.50 -$1.00 for under $100.00
If you go higher it is 1 % up to a max charge of $100.00
My bad ,, sorry. :embarrassed:

Ok since I am the one selling this game I thought I should jump in and
answer a few questions.
The reserve is set at my cost, this includes the estimated ebay and paypal fees (1500.00).
I set the starting bid at 1200 because I was hoping this would attract serious
bidders and let everyone know what price range I was expecting.
I believe this is a very good price considering the chances of getting someone to sell you one of the few boxed examples of this game for less, would be next to impossible. Believe me this item would not be for sale now if it was not absolutely necessary.
Also this item comes with documented history from Answer Software, this
makes it unique and sets it apart from the rest. I only know of 5 other boxed
examples and the condition is equal to if not better than the rest. You can
expect the value to increase on this item for any of the following reasons,
Condition, Rarity, Documented History
Last I was not complaining about the quality of the scan as a mater of fact I
think those scans are very detailed compared to the average,
what I was trying to point out was that there was some reflection going on.
