Man, does anybody know how to work this thing? I mean I got 6 batteries,but I try to write the PocketNES and some NES roms to my 128M flash cartridge, and every fucking thing I do becomes an error,when writing, the file error prompt would come up after 2 seconds, sometimes approximately 21 seconds. The way i'm feeling right now about my Flash Advance Writer I just want to take it and throw it across the room.

Are you sure you have the right software package - the one for your model of cartridge? There are more cartridges than just the FlashAdvance - there's like the EZ-Flash and some other ones. FlashAdvance only works on the FlashAdvance model and not on its competitors.

Oh I use Flash Advance Pro.

Even if you have the right model of flashcart, they do go bad once in awhile. Your problem sounds exactly like a problem I had last year when my 64mb flashcart went bad. The linker and software saw everything but would give me errors halfway though when erasing/writing.

Well I just had this for a couple of days. I got it from the Magfest Convention last weekend. And I've tried several different programs, the Flash Advance Writer, and Little Writer. Oh and how do I change my Parallel printer port from SPP to EPP?

When you start your computer , you have to go into the bios and change it. Most computers display which key to push to get into the setup . Usually it's F2 .

Really? Cuz I heard that there are different ways of doing it indivually depending on what computer it is. I'm on Win98. But what exactly is the sequence? I catch myself going into the Control Panel > Printers.

It's before windows boots up at all. Reboot the machine, and one of the first thing you see will say "Push XXXX for setup". On mine it's delete.

OK I found the BIOS. And when I went to the parallel port configuration, I only saw Standard and Extended. I went back to Flash Writer, and it still classified my Port as SPP and kept giving short-timed errors :angry:

Try using Little Writer. its a great Flash Card program that supports a variety of GBA Flash Cards:

I've tried LW. It gave me just as much problems as Flash Advance Pro did.

I used an AC adapter on it and took the batteries out. When Windows loaded, the "Looking for parallel port device" window popped up and I thought I was gonna see light at the end of the tunnel. But I mostly got Flash Not Found, or if I forced it to recognize the Cart, I get errors like usual.

I gave up.

It's sitting on top of my computer collecting dust.

One thing though, would I get a better chance if I used a Parallel-to-USB cable?

For what it's worth, I had very similar problems with my Sega Genesis flash rom thing (same idea, different system). I messed around with my printer port over and over in the bios, tried every different setting both in the bios and in Windows.

Just when I was convinced the thing was broke, I hooked it up to an older machine (p700) ... and low and behold, it worked great. It's not the speed, but just the difference in printer ports I guess. My advice would be to try it on a couple of different computers and see if you can get it working.
