Someone over at another board posted these pics (who knows where or what they're from) and it reminds me of how stupid it was not to have a Kid Icarus on the SNES.

Anyone know if they actually had a game in production and scrapped it, or did they just forget about the greatness of the NES game completely?

240x160 is the resolution of the Gameboy Advance. Either that is a real game in development (most likely homebrew) or just some showcase of a very talented pixel pusher.

I believe there is a SNES ROM floating around for a Kid Icarus game. But from what I hear, it doesn't actually work. Don't know if it's legit or not.

I have no clue as to why Nintendo negelected Pit, but those pics you've just posted as created an entirely new mystery...wtf is that game?

It is possible a GBA game could be in the works. Take into consideration the rumor that the cancelled Capcom game Dead Pheonix may become a GC Kid Icarus.

There is a kid icarus rom for SNES (I have it) but it's just a stright port of the NES one.
These pics look interesting. I think they will make a gba-game.
There are signs that this is a real "in-nintendo-development"-game:
The backgrounds are not detailed, just the essential is here like in all Mario games for GBA and SNES but Kid and enemies look fantastic.

But something tells me that these pics are not true. I've seen the heart-containers,torches and the body(not the head) of the boss somewhere before.....mmhhh

I'd bet...well, a fair amount - that those pix are doctored screenshots - MAYBE from a homebrew project. A pixel artist, of course, could have just slapped together his or her graphics into one of those screenshots...and that dotted-line square looks suspiciously like the item-holders in either Zelda III or SMW. The eyeball enemies look suspiciously like the ones from Zelda II. SO do those curtains. Note that Kid Icarus isn't in a different pose in the two screenshots...it's the exact same pose. That's not conclusive, but...

From what I remember, sales of the Game Boy Kid Icarus game were lousy. My guess is that they probably wouldn't be working on another one for GBA...but then again, I could be wrong. Barring ANY official word, rumor, or preview whatsoever - I highly doubt that this is legit. If Nintendo were doing a new Kid Icarus game and it was advanced enough to be producing this level of screenshot-graphics, I'm sure Gamespot / Gamespy would have dozens of screenshots like these already - just like they do of the Double Dragon and River City Ransom games that are coming out for GBA.

I'd love to see a new KI game. There's so much Nintendo could do with it, if they'd really take the time to try.

The world that KI is set in has endless possibilities, there could be quite a few VERY good games to come out of this. What were the sales figures for the NES Kid Icarus? I didn't hink it did that well either. I know w lot of people that borrowed mine and hated it because they got very frustrated early on.

The eyeball enemies look suspiciously like the ones from Zelda II.

those eyeball guys were in the first Kid Icarus game, go check it out, thats not a Zelda rip, dunno about the other stuff that you meantioned though.

I think that a Kid Icarus game would be cool, but I am not in need of it. I'm perfectly happy with playing the original game on NES. I love the music.

Looks like a cross between Super Mario World and Super Castlevania IV.

I wasn't a big Kid Icarus fan growing up, but those screens, even if fake...are very nice :)

I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that the original just didn't sell that well. Maybe it was just that it wasn't marketed as well either - I can't remember for sure.

I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to resurrect it though. Feed of the nostalgia end and give the project to a 3rd party to help solidify more of those types of relationships. Seems like it'd be win/win to me.

I remember playing Kid Icarus... it only served to piss me off with its insane difficulty.

Is it just me, or do the platform blocks in the second screenshot look like the telepathy block from Zelda 3?

Looks good otherwise, but the Zelda influence (come on, there's even red hearts that gray out when he's hit!) is unmistakable. Or perhaps that's the Miyamoto influence...

sorry to say so, but i hated the nes kid icarus, rented it for a while when i was 8 or something like that and i was going insane because it was so difficult, i had beaten Mega Man 3 on my own back then, so i thought i was good at video games, but this game showed me the limits ;)

I 100% agree.

Nintendo should resurrect Pit. At least they had the decency to make him a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but that's not nearly good enough. KI is a good game, but I really didn't get too far in it. I usually give up by the time I get to the first Reaper. :embarrassed:

I'd love to see another Kid Icaus, but it's easy to see why the first game doesn't sit right with so many people. For some reason, Nintendo made Level 1 the hardest level! Once you get through that though, the rest of the game is actually quite good.

Those screenshots look pretty nice. In the first shot though, they have both eyeball monster sprites and mouth monster sprites. Both of these creatures act the same - their appearance differs depending on what level you're playing. It seems kind of strange to have them both in the same level at once. Maybe that's just me overanalyzing things...

If they actually make a GOOD Kid Icarus game I'll try it...but the first 2 were lame.

Kid Icarus got fun when you POWERED UP and could shoot fireball arrows across the entire length of the screen and of course had the extended health meter. Took a while to get there though :hmm:
