Ah, lotta memories with that one. Everytime I turned on my Sega Genesis that Christmas Day, that Sonic the Hedgehog title screen always dazzled me. 16-bit systems were so new at the time, the graphics and colors just blew me away. The Sonic the Hedgehog title screen is full of colors and detail. It's always been one of my favorite screens.

What title screens are your favorite?

I loved the opening sequence of The Three Stoogoes for the Commodore 64. Upon booting up the game, the title screen for Defender of the Crown would come up, complete with theme. :hmm: Then, the Stooges would walk in and Larry would say, "Hey! This looks like a kid's game!" The screen would go black, and the black and white movie countdown would begin:

4....3....2....1....

The the REAL title screen for the Three Stooges would pop up with the Stooges theme blaring. Moe says, "This is more like it!" and the Stooges would walk off-screen to begin the game. A great joke with the fake opening sequence! First time it happened, I thought the wrong disc got packaged in my game. LOL

Heh, I concur, I remember this happening with the NES version when the Ghostbusters II logo came on, until the Stooges showed up. I love that game.

One of my favorites is and always will be:

The lightning crackling, and the haunting music... which was always followed with the soothing harp-like music theme. Ahhh, I do so love that theme. So glad FF XI kept with the usual music scheme!

This also cracked me up. What an underrated game. LOL LOL LOL

Hmm... good question. I've always been partial to Donket Kong myself, how the bars rapidly flash between colors and he beats his chest... Dig Dug's is also great. That poor Pooka and Fygar... getting smashed beneath the logo must be a lot worse than any old rock! LOL LOL LOL

Three immediately come to mind for me:

1. Castlevania. I remember turning it on for the first time and watching the bat fly up from the castle. Minimal, yes, but I had a feeling I was about to play something special...

2. Space Harrier II. One of the first Genny games I ever saw, and the scaling letters and rotating golden II blew me away.

3, MUSHA. The little opening animation led right into a closeup of the head of a MUSHA unit, then the title came up. What detail! And the eye flashing green with that really cool electronic sound just added to it.

Casino Games on the Master System has a really nice title screen with lots of color and depth that really shows off the graphic capabilities of the system.

Ghouls'N Ghost's title is great too, makes Daimakamura's title screen look like crap!

IIDX 6th Style, just because I love the song "Tomorrow Perfume" so much.

The intro/title screen of Metroid is another wonderful haunting opening like Final Fantasy III/VI.

Capcom. Versus S N K! Millenium Fight Two Thousand!!!!

I've got another one: Contra 3. That whistling sound it made when zooming in shattered my eardrums... sweet. :D

Dangit, Yashiro! Now I'll never get the CvS announcer out of my brain! LOL

X-men vs. Street Fighter! Loved that intro. I remember seeing it for the first time on my Saturn, and just loving it. I never cared much for the Capcom vs. SNK one compared to this one. Sorry guys.

For older systems... I liked Taz (2600) and Bump N Jump (Intellivision). Both were great, but Bump N Jump was definitely impressive for its time, and looked really neat, if not a little warped... everything sort of moved in a very strange way. Technically impressive though for the INTY.

One of the ones that sticks out in my mind was the one for Rambo III for the Genesis since I think that was the first time digitized graphics were used on a console.

That reminds me, Rambo III on the SMS has a wicked title screen! Full screen rambo tightening his headband, 3 knives flash on screen, then III zooms into place.

If FFIII wasn't mentioned, I'd go for that ;)

UN Squadron (Area88) on SNES man, the entire beginning sequence is awesome. It's so great, I stole it for one of my .sigs

I've always been partial to the opening screen of Kirby's Adventure, where they draw him out and add a "splash" of color and ship him off.

I think I need another game to get addicted to...

I have to second UN Squadron, and I'll cast a vote for The Revenge Of Shinobi. If Jo's pic wasn't digitized, it sure looked like it was.

I'll second the nomination for Secret of Mana. There's just something about the way the title shot comes together. The Squaresoft logo appears to some hazy growling sounds, a gentle piano tune begins, and it builds to a rushing symphony as a flock of birds flies past. I'd often just fire up the game so I could sit back and watch the title come up.

I also liked the title sequence of Chrono Cross. The opening sequence is a blur of images and gorgeous music, but it then turns to the game's logo drifting placidly through an underwater reef. It's quite relaxing, really.

well the title screen that sticks in my mind the most........SMB/DH. mainly because when i was 10, down on my knees after repetative attempts to get that SONOFA  working.....it would always pop up, SMB in from one side, Duck hunt from the other and STOP halfway, and go back and again....and again. i'll have to think hard about a favorite though......maybe contra for nes just for the music and THE code..

Gunstar heroes for Mega Drive. How many other games let you turn the title screen upside down ?!? (waits for someone say one that did it before GH...) :-P
