I'm really not much of a fan of the series, but I when I did play, I used Hulk, Iron Man, and Cyclops alot.
The one thing I wished the MvC games had were character specific supers. How cool would it have been to use Maggy and rip out Wolvie's adamantium?

Yeah, robotron picked it up for the neo geo back when it first came out....I remember that for a good long stretch people would go over to his place to have some really good matches in that game. Definitely one of my fav KOFs, and an underrated one at that.

You hear about the sentinel unblockable hit thing? Apparently I think its his crouch fierce punch, where he shoots a laser out of his mouth...if you time it so your opponent only hits the beam at the very end of the attack, they can't block it, and sent gets a free drone super or whatever. It's very damaging, considering that after you do his standard combo, it knocks em down, setting up perfectly for the unblockable fierce.
portnoyd
11-06-2003, 04:51 PM
Yeah, as the c.Fierce beam hits twice, it oddly guard breaks. The first hit forces the block, the second, almost instanteously breaks.
It works like Cable's overused and almost-too-easy guard break. After your opponent loses a character, have Cable jump and shoot his gun (Fierce). As soon as you land, AHVB. Your opponent will block the shot, and fall helplessly into the AHVB. With 3-4 supers charged, say goodbye to that character :( The only counter to this is to take the gunshot, and hope you recover fast enough to go into block.
Like I said in the MvsC2 thread... an open engine... a little too open.

It's been so long since I played MvC2... my best team, according to my Arcade Ranking, was Juggernaut, Strider, and Rogue. As far as Score Attack went, Cable, B.B. Hood, and Gambit. My favorite team overall is Cable, Mega Man, and Gambit, who I think are three of the cheapest characters in the game. Basically, it denotes how good I am at fighting games. ^^;

Cable is good, if he has meter. Once cable gets 3 levels or more of meter, he can effectively murder a character or two, thanks to air hyper viper beam. Outside of that, about all he has is his scimitar and grenades.
Gambit and Mega Man though...Gambit isn't too hot, and all mega man has goin for him is filling the screen with buster shots and rock balls. The big 4 of that game-Cable, Sentinel, Magneto, and Storm. There's about 10 or 12 more characters that are useable, like captain commando, iron man, cyclops, megaman, strider/dr doom, blackheart, rogue, tron, and ken...but the majority of the cast is worthless.
Juggernaut's glitch was friggin insane though. Do his powerup, switch out, and the powerup becomes permanent. When you got him on juggernaut punch assist...look out @_@

I really haven't played that game in ages... maybe Gambit and Mega Man wasn't my favorite/best team. But Cable definitely was. I might even go so far as to say that he's my best character. Maybe it was Cable, Strider, and Iron Man. Or, Cable, Akuma, and Juggernaut? I don't remember, but I am more partial to the Marvel side myself.

Megaman can be a HUGE pain in the ass with his Rock Balls / Busters.
I wouldn't say every character is MvsC2 is useless. Some are.. Roll and Dan (His AAA is good tho), but the others have some redeeming quality. Servbot has insane chipping power on gamma assist (force block with assist, QCF+PP), Anakaris can be crazy if you use him right, and so on.
If you want to get high scores in Arcade Mode, set damage to full, Sent/Jugg assist. You'll kill most opposing CPU teams in 10-15 seconds.

Yes, this is the guard break, but like Iron Mans you can EASILY mess up it if you are the guard broken character and i will tell you how. :)
When your first character is dead and your second character jumps in, block the shot that the cable will shoot then press both punches to push him back. This will delay the time for the AHVB and throw the guy off. You will then most likely block the AHVB.
I have to many to list, but here it goes:
Magneto/Sentinel/Capcom
Storm/Sent/Capcom
Cable/Mag/Sent
Iron Man/Magz/Cable
I LOVE to play in tournaments, and go to them frequently. Does anyone else go and play the top players like Ghengis, JWong, ShadyK, and so on? And not to brag, but i am really good. :)

I'm a tournament player over in Detroit, but the only games that get tourneys are CvS2 and SF3: 3rd Strike. I'm betting Sam Sho V will, but Marvel 2 is just dead here except for a few guys who don't care too much. But we've got our high class players...VDO is considered one of the best in the midwest, and last november when John Choi was here, the two of them put on a hell of a close fight in cvs2. And AVX is definitely one of the more skilled SF Alpha 3 players on the continent (not that anyone plays that game outside of like, montreal). I've never actually won anything outside of the "grudge match" tournaments, but I've placed pretty high before.

I've played Justin Wong a few times. He's pretty amazing. Most of the guys I play with know Justin and drag him to our local arcade. :) Most of the best players in the arcade cut their teeth at Chinatown.
We have good competition here, but I don't even bother with tournaments, bc they either require me to go to NYC or Central NJ (and I'm far too lazy for that), and the competition is very, very hard to top.
And if we're going to brag... yeah, my Colossus is pretty damn good. :) Hyper Armor murders MSP.

Bizounce is but I don't think he's even been on here for a while. Robotron knows all about the Detroit scene too, even though he's not an active tournament participant, everyone knows him, and everyone respects him for his mad skills in SNK fighters, and being the gracious host of Friday Night Gaming.
I think the best stuff was our first and only Guilty Gear X tournament...one of the finalists was "Little Jen", who absolutely kicks ass at GGX. She damn near won it, but in the end, who beats her but her boyfriend George LOL I almost feel bad for the guy, because I would've done the same thing.

I think you guys are way more l33t at those games than I am. I kind of like Wolverine and Ryu / Ken / Akuma (can't remember if Akuma is in MVC2, haven't played it a ton - mostly the original), but I'm nowhere near as hardcore as some of you guys.
I'm much better at FPSes myself. I usually pwn when I'm playing those online.

You HAVE to run away and poke with Magneto and Storm when he has Hyper Armor on. Since Magneto runs best on his infinites/AC->Tempest and such, and Storm's best is AC->Lightning or Hailstorm, Colossus in HA gains the advantage by negating those. The biggest advantage he has over is MSP is the Psylocke AAA.... in my case, it lets you rip off Tron every time as it bounces off him for tit damage and leaves her standing there helpless. Either risk Magneto or Storm to save her, or lose half her life.
Storm runs best (Lightning attack + 8way dash + top of screen typhoons), while Magneto is not as good. Cable never flinches against a HA Colossus, and Sentinel only has to fly dodge Colossus for HA to lose most of its effectiveness. That it for the god tier. Other top tiers (Doom, Cyclops, etc) have moderate success with running away. Anyone in the normal tier is kinda screwed.
And yes, Colossus is a rarity. In 3 years, I've seen 3 serious players use him, including myself, and I was able to beat them without much effort. He's really damn good, but he has to played super aggressively. You stand no chance against Cable any other way. And since it's unlikely you can save your assists against him, you pretty much have to go it alone.
I could go on. :)
And where was Xbox or PS2 online play for MvsC2?!?

Colossus is pretty good, but i like to either go crazy fast with magz FP in air, rush then run for a while, or go for storm and chip like hell with HS. Cable will easily kill Colossus as well as most everyone else. I stopped using him, because all you do is FP in air, blue orb thing (forgot what the hell its called) then go for AHVB 3x.
Sentinel is REALLY good because-
He does CRAZY damage.
He has CRAZY unfly crap
He can easily get you into half-3/4 of your life down with the drone combos.
With Capcom as assist you basically have an unstopable force.
A really good technique which is annoying - c.fp, fly, then unfly, c.fp as fast as you can.
He also has a damn guard break to boot.
PLUS his stompdown with capcom/doom/almost anyone.
BTW Portnoyd go ahead and go on. :)

Will do. I'll abandon the quoting, as its getting pretty big already.
The whole point of Magneto is to either overhead or c.Short right from the start, and never let go. You want to avoid hyper gravs at all possible, as they are an out. With Colossus, you never want to give him the chance to HA.
Unless the opposing Cable is not good at TKAHVB, you don't have much of a chance without a god tier in use. Colossus either needs to nerf their assist before he comes out (so he stops using it, giving a LITTLE in C's favor, not overall favor, but some towards being even), or trick him to waste his super meters. With no super, you can call assists again. When he has no assists AND no super, he's brought down to the normal character tier, and you can assist and rush down until he gets either one back. At this point, it may make sense to HA, as you can shrug off grenades and use his lag in throwing those for shoulder tackles/assists to close in. And when he gets his assist or super back, you have SOME insurance until HA runs out again.
Sentinel has the best defense AND offense ratio by far. Interestingly, Colossus is one below Sent in both areas (According to Kao Megura's FAQ). Fly/Unfly gives him the speed he shouldn't have. His Fierce and RH are too good in power and range. HSF is the second safest super next to AHVB. It's really funny to watch Sent take apart an Akuma. Stompdown + AAA is really hard to counter as well.

I'll have to break up this talk of Viper Beams and HSFs for a moment so I can add that I usually go with Chun-Li, Jin Saotome, and Ruby Heart. I'm not even remotely skilled at playing Ruby Heart, but I have fun with her nonetheless. It's probably just the novelty of an original character.

Ruby Heart's AAA assist is really good, you just have space it out right. Her supers leave something to be desired tho.. her normals are pretty top notch.
Jin is pretty damn good, but he's not a pick-up-and-win character. Blodia punches are key, and the cyclone is excellent anti-air. He has two great assist, his AAA and the typhoon sets up nicely for combo and supers.
Chun-Li. More power to ya. I've always found her exceedingly hard to use. Your opponent has to be stoned out his mind to get caught in the super fireball, and his other supers don't do THAT much damage.

Have any of you guys seen the meikyousisui videos, and the satsujins?
I swear, Joo and Yuta are amazing in them.
Another character that i am liking more and more everyday is cammy.
Her AAA is very good, because it almost locks onto the opponent if he/she is in the air. She has some pretty good supers, but by far her best one is the spider-man type one she has.
She can incorporate that into almost everyone of her air combos, plus if you learn how to double jump in the middle of the combo you can it expand it for around 4 more hits.
She can also take out a Sentinel with her assist if you play well.
