That seller claims it can play all of those games, the only way is MAME. He doesn't mention MAME once. MAME also explicitly forbids the distribution of MAME and ANY ROMS on the same physical medium. Not to mention that he clearly states that it can play console games, so throw in those emulators/roms together too... this guy is breaking a LOT of laws if he's not extremely careful about the way he distributes these.

Pretty cabinet, though.

I'd be willing to bet that ebay will close that auction shortly.

Isn't he violating copyrights simply by using those images on the side of the machine?

I think I remember seeing a 60-1 or something at Marvolus Marvins in Michigan. I'm guessing thats legal.

60-1 is likely a dedicated pcb and unless they were all pirated binaries, it probably was legal.

Cuewarrior, you're right. Technically he IS violating copyright using those images, though I doubt anyone would go after him for selling one machine with a couple of images on it. Now, 8000 roms... that's different.

Oh, I agree. I was trying to make that point. Even the artwork is illegal and that's just a small thing.

The 'installation' fee of 500 for a DDR pad that costs about 150 is trippy.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is an AWESOME looking Machine ? @_@

The pad from the manufacturer is $200
(www.mymybox.com)

I would say the installation fee of $950 for 2 pads is more ridiculous. Oh...that and the fact that those pads are CRAP. The Playstation to PC adaptor costs AT MOST $50, so basically he is charging $700 to put PLUG A insto SOCKET B. What bullshit.

For the reference, thse pads ARE CRAP. They last about 3 months and then they crack, lose responsiveness, etc etc.

That would be the biggest waste of $1000 I have ever seen.

And no, you can't play Pump It Up with those. That game uses the 4 diagonal and middle squares.

The side art has a holographic background (the gears). I sort of wonder how he did that, if there's some kit sold underground or if he had that custom-done (which I doubt).

You can see MAME on one of the screenshots he shows. My only question is that MAME only supports 5,000 games right now, right? How did he get 8,000>

Edit: Never mind.....I see the other systems now.....I'm an idot. move along...nothing to see here.

:eek 2:

and this one

Yet at the end the sellers says...

No game roms are included with this auction due to copyright laws

So i take it that the PC is optional???

The disclaimers are probably there to cover his greasy ass, I wouldn't doubt it if he included a CD-ROM after the auction ended or gave the buyer directions where to get it.

I was thinking of the metal pads from Redoctane.com but those are 200 too, upon closer inspection.

I think he should sell the cabinet w/o the roms.....i will report him! LOL

Why? He really isn't doing anything wrong.

He says that cabinet can play the ROMS, not that they are included. In fact, he explicitly states that the ROMs are NOT included with auction.

I guess the only legal problem I see with this auction is like CueWarrior said, the side art.

Can someone dumb these legal infractions down so I can understand? Why is a MAME cabinet illegal? I've seen several of these complete before....

This is indeed a gray zone of the laws......

I really see no problem with this auction.

As far as legality goes, is a cabinet that CAN play mame roms any more illegal than mame itself?

It's not that I'm bored, its that I read this forum all the time and I think that sometimes the people here get too caught up in being the all knowing videogame guru / ebay policeman. After all, if we can sit around here all day long and make fun of ebay sellers shouldn't we be able to take a little criticizm as well?

I'm just messing with you. If you didn't post and then others didn't , what would I have to do ? LOL

Yeah that's insane. But to have an DDR arcade pad would be the BOMB. :D ...Or something...
