I went to Blockbuster with a friend today since I heard they now had sort of a game shop inside, and you wouldn't believe the deal I got. I was perusing all ofthe used games since they had some pretty good deals, when I saw it:

Contra: Shattered Soldier for ps2: $4.99

Needless to say I snatched that up as fast as my hands could grasp it. It gets better....

I got to the counter and the guy says "wow, this is a great deal!" which I agreed, then he says "plus with the $3 we take off for our current sale makes this a steal!" Huh? Unbeknownst to me until Nov. 17 you get $3 off all used games! For those of you who failed basic math, that means I got a complete, scratch & sticker free Contra:SS for a mere. $2.09 with tax. Needless to say I now love Blockbuster and I'll be frequenting their establishment often now!

Dang! And I had to pay $50 to play C:SS! Well, to play AND buy it. LOL

That's a great deal for such a great game. I should go down to Blockbuster soon and maybe rent F-Zero GX... nah. I'd probably end up owning it before I rent it.

You are lucky that the game was Sticker free. I used to work at Blockbuster and they pretty much gave the games the anal rape equivalent in stickers. Yowsas!

DrJustin beat me to the punch about posting this. Supposedly, this sale started earlier this week. The $3 off is still a good deal even if you don't find something as good as Contra. Nothing was outlandishly underpriced, but I went out there today and picked up RTX Red Rock for PS2 for 3.99 and Freaky Flyers for Xbox for 11.99. It seems they just order too many copies for rental. I wish they kept the original cases instead of these sucky BB cases. Also, they had a Starsky and Hutch for PS2 for $11.99, but there was no manual, so I had to draw the line somewhere...

I sucked in my pride and went to BB to rent GTA 3 for Xbox (which they had, bestill my heart). Checking out the titles for sale I snagged Panzer Dragoon Orta (complete) for $11.99 and Mace Griffin (sans original case but original instructions) also for $11.99.

Funny you mentioned RTX Red Rock, I had that in my hand but eventually put it back. I might end up going back tomorrow, those are just incredibly good deals. The little game store in there is actually pretty damn good, kind of like a Gamestop Jr. or something.

One thing I did find laughable though is they had some ps1 and N64 stuff in a little case with an accompanying sign reading "Retro Games." LOL

I'd hate to see what they'd do if I brought in a stack of Atari 2600 titles....put them with a sign that reads "Older Than Fucking Dirt."

I went to BB tonight..I usually find something I'd buy ,,But they didn't have anything I wanted to buy and for the prices listed... or that I didn't have already.. :(

Yeah, they used to do that with PSOne games, but you cant do that with the next gen systems... throws the discs off balance and can destroy the system. Unless you get a really really early title from this generation of systems, they will all be sticker free.

Nope, not all BB's will have the Gamestop JR. The one closest to me doesn't have one so I hit the one that's a little farther (alright, a LOT farther) drive. I think their website may be able to tell you which stores are and which aren't participating in the "Gamestop JR" thingie. By the way, it's not REALLY called "Gamestop JR," before someone asks, but it is fairly impressive for a rental store, they had controllers, cables, game figures and everything!

I really hate my local BB.

I haven't been in ours in around 6 years. They never sold games at all, only rental. I found a very very small rack of games for sale. Nothing that great... PRICES WERE HORRIBLE! 34.99 for a Starfox Adventures... WTF It's 20 bucks new like 2 blocks away!!!!

Now here is what REALLY pissed me off..

THey have around 8-10 copies of Lunar 1 and 2 each for rental. I asked if they could sell one, but they wouldn't. :(

I know it's not the employees fault, but it's really sad... I could make a lot off of those... T_T

They got tons of rare games for rent, doesn't look like they've ever been rented for a year or so.

I WILL however, call up a manager later. See if I can setup something ;)

yeah, we just got one in my BB...it is called Game Zone. They only had greatest hits titles for ps1, but were reasonably priced. I'm a little worried tho, as my 2 favorite game stores are very near BB's. I hope it doesn't hurt their sales.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. They'll be gung-ho about the new program for a short while, and then realize that they tried to jump on the bandwagon too late, and then bow out. They're only doing it because Hollywood Video is doing it with Game Crazy.

IMHO, they just need to stick to renting stuff and selling off their excess like they always have, not opening a gaming store within BBV.
