Has anyone ever located a local source for the NES cartridge security bit? (I already know I can get them from sylentwolf or MCM, or various other places online.) I need one today, so I'm hoping I might be able to run into a Homedepot or Lowes and get lucky.
I've also already tried the melt an ink cartridge trick, but each melt is only good for 1 screw (if that), and I'm quickly running out of pens. I did manage to free the PCB be simply removing one of the lower screws, but now I need to modify the cases and loosen the rest of them.

You know, I never got around to ever commenting how neat I thought that avatar was. Both games being from the Lynx (and probably the same artist working on either title made it mesh so well.
As for the bits, I believe those particular heads are used for things other than video games. You're best bet is to head to the stores with the screw and just show it to the guys. If they don't have the exact gamebit, they should be able to hook you up with what is called a spanner head. It looks like a two-pronged flat head screwdriver. With that you simply position the prongs into opposite sides of the screw and twist. Grips two points instead of the many that the regular bit would.
For that you may as well bring the cart casing too, to make sure the spanner will fit down the screw hole.

You could use a nut driver from a jewelers screw driver kit. I believe the one to use it 7/16ths, but it has been a long time since I used one so it's 7/?? for sure... It is not a good fit, but if you press down hard you will be able to unscrew it without ANY damage to the cart. I used this on 100's of carts and it does work!
This is what I mean:

Out of stock on their online store but maybe a local one has it. Cool, I've got to check that out sometime.
