The xbox rug does make me laugh, but it really is a prototype. So was the clock. I have seen the proto neon signs too, I'm surprised they haven't sold those! But, I wll say, there are many more than three. I can count 5 in the xbox offices at MS. I have many dealings with the merchandising guys there, and you would not believe the stuff they created and never released... it is amazing.

Those pictures are not of a final Dreamcast Dev Kit.

Reading a bit closer its a SET 4. SET 4 are early dev kits, SET 5 was final chipset (One version (can't recall if was SET 3 or 4) was just a PC card). In SET 4 the chips aren't final, its really a prototype it doesn't run real code at all.

not necessarily. i don't know enough to say that its not, but i know that some of the genesis protos that pachuka sold on ebay last month were not legit(some were). either he doesn't know his stuff as well as people think, or he is just trying to make some quick money by selling fake protos to stupid people.

You can work at a video game company,and notbe ableto tell the difference. for the most part, only 2 protos he has sold were legit, the others were just regular ROMS of inside boards, only way you can tell with Virtua Fighter is if there are WINDOWS underneath the ROM chips themeselves, but keep in mind, he sold this ONCE on ebay before, so this is the second time, either someone caught on, or did not pay, who knows....

Very good points. I just figured bc he had protos with other unique Genesis stuff (SG Demo Unit, Sega Channel unit) recently that he was just purging some good stuff. Also, I've seen him in the scene several times in passing in regards to emulation and roms and what not. Oh well.

Ok you guys watch this thread that makes me feel great.

But lets see some feedback. If a proto pops up and you thinks its a fake lets hear it so no one gets burned. If you have a question about a current proto lets hear it.

You find a proto thats not up here and you don't want it LET US KNOW. I can kinda understand if you really want it, not sharing but for Gods sake if you don't want it what excuse do you have to not share it.

I put some effort into this so that we can all benefit from the groups experience. Lets generate some conversation on the very items this forum is dedicated to.

Hi, I'm PACHUKA. A friend of mine directed me to here because he's a proto collector.

I feel the need to defend myself, as a collector and a seller. I have allways defined anything made before the release of a game a prototype, due to the fact that there are allways the possiblity of leftover material in them.

Case in point: My recent genesis prototype sales. The eprom chips quite often have leftover data. It may be the final release, but they reused the chips over and over and over.

Example: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 prototype ROM currently floating around has quite a bit of hidden material that was only recently discovered by disassembling the rom. Parts of the game that were cut before this build can be found internally.

Example #2: Sonic Crackers Prototype contains the ass end of a Ninja turtle game. Unknown if it's final or not, but there is quite a bit of leftover material alot of times.

I have 3 reasons to sell these:
#1 I'm saving up for my holy grail
#2 I have no way to copy them for archiving (not including the CDs in that case)
#3 My joy in collecting is the hunting and winning. Afterwards it sits on a shelf.

If you doubt my honesty, please, don't bid. It won't bother me. But don't publicly declare someone dishonest or ignorant simply because a proto was close to, if not the final version.

If I chose to be dishonest, I could have picked up an eprom burner for $100 and slapped a prototype ROM I got off the internet. It's easy enough to do. But then whatever could be learned about whatever I wrote over would be lost, possibly forever.

i don't think you are dishonest on purpose, i bought the jurassic park sega cd proto. just because a proto is exactly the same as the final version isn't why its not a proto. some of the genesis protos you sold didn't have eproms and weren't even on prototype boards. some of them were legit, but some weren't, obviously you just weren't aware of this, i didn't mean that you were a dishonest seller.
