Anyone up for a MAME group/club thing?

I got an idea while sitting here playing through some unknown games. Once a week, a small, lesser known game title is posted that's compatible with MAME, everyone in the group (and a few stragglers who I'm sure would show up) plays through it. You come back here, post your thoughts, issues with MAME the game may have, mini-reviews, random thoughts, etc. Everyone gets a shot at picking a game eventually. Anyone up for it?

I like the idea of an "obscure MAME game of the week". Good idea GRG!!

as for single sites that still have ROMs...I'm sure there are many (including DP's own Emulation page...) still left, just not as obvious as mame.dk.

One I use occasionally is http://mamefans.metropoliglobal.com/ it's written in Spanish (of course, there is an English option)...but it isn't hard to get around.

There is one major annoyance, though.

You do have to register to download, you can get a free account but for free, occasionally you have to wait a long time for downloads...or you can pay a few euros and get instant downloads. Longest wait I've had in the past is 20 minutes...average wait is about 5 minutes for a ROM...

It's pretty good, not great...but w/o mame.dk, it fits the bill somewhat...

Or if you can find someone who will bun you DVDs full of ROMs for the price of a few discs...that works as well :)

Zektor has discs....lots of 'em. :) Any ROMS you need, he's got 'em.

I used to be huge into emulation, and then I just didn't have time for it any more. I can remember MAME having about 30 games total, and floppies could hold it. I've recently been getting back into it and plan on building a cab in the next year or so, as time and money allow.

Sounds good to me! What do we want? Anything! Reviews, random thoughts, scores if applicable, etc. Just a general discussion is what I was thinking and trying to get some of "those" games out there that most people might not have tried or even heard of.

As for picking games, how about in the order we signed up? First come, first served sounds fair to me. Of course, Joe just ruined that for everybody.... :P

Well, if you can't run it at a decent speed be sure to add how well/not well it runs on your configuration in your review. Also, although I'm running a P3 1Gz, I too have the Tnt2 card.

Man, that's a nice cabinet! Of course, if you REALLY want to play Elevator Action you should just pick one up and put it in the kitchen while your wife is out shopping. Chicks love video game cabinets next to their chinaware.

You put your own PC in so it works as well as any mame. The controller interfaces with the keyboard.
