View Full Version : Digital Press Guide Version 8
When is this book scheduled to be released? Is a new version of the book released every year, or only some years? Also, is the 8th version of the book going to be out with ample time before Christmas, so that it can be ordered and received in time for a present?
Thanks.

I don't think they are releasing a book this year, I believe the goal is to release DP8 next year some time. I'd ask Joe to be sure though.

New versions of The Guide are released every few years or so. It is *not* an "annual event." The Guide currently available was released in 2002. This year saw the release of The PsychoPedia. There may be a new Guide next year, but I haven't heard any specfic plans.

What are the differences between the Psychopedia and the Guide?
edit: the search option is my friend :)

I've answered this so many times that you'd THINK I'd have my "reply template" available wherever I go. But I don't. It's at home.
Here's the expected release schedule:
2003/08: psychOpedia [released]
2004/07: DP Collector's Guide Advance
2004/12: DP Collector's Guide Classic (8th ed)
Hope this helps with your planning and saving of pennies!

I'm hoping here all of those years are one on from what you've typed Joe ;)

I was curious when that 'Advance' book (which is the blue 16-bit guide I'm hoping) was coming out, I've been salivating for that for a while now!

Thanks for pointing that out, Mat.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my crack pipe.

WOW 8 YEARS between editions! It seems like there would be enough edits between 2004 and 2012 to warrant a new guide.

Isn't DPG 7 still available? I'd suggest buying it if it is, no point in waiting til 8 comes out, you can buy it when it does. I've got DPG 5 & 6 available if anyone needs them. Collect'em ALL! ;)

I agree, the old issues are a good read. It's cool to read how things have changed in a few years time. I consider the books as a flashpoint of the collecting scene at that time, but some things change pretty fast (remember when Stadium events wasn't considered that rare?). I am looking forward to the release of both issues, whenever they come out. :)

I dont know if this was directed at me, but Ive already got it. If it wasnt, then let me also suggest not waiting until ed 8 comes out.

Nope just a general statement. Not directed at anybody. :) Just a great book to own if you're into classic games is all. I would encourage anyone who still doesn't own one to pick one up. Even if there's a new book on the horizon, no since waiting on DPG8 when there's one that's out now.

The top three books for any gamer IMO are the DP Guide (whatever the edtion), the Pheonix Guide, and The First Quarter. I open up all of 'um often enough, I've gotten four times my money out of them!
I don't care when the next Guide comes out (though hopefully soon, the sooner the better!), so long as it comes out!

Yeah, like in volume #3 when Air Raid was worth $25. LOL
Strangely enough though, volume #3 stated that the 2600 version of Asterix DID exist in NTSC format. :hmm:

I'm pretty sure the second number there is the month of the next release (i.e. December).

:embarrassed: I wish I had been sarcastic, I feel somewhat stupid now. That was genuine shock at an 8 year lay over for a new edition. :embarrassed:
