I was perusing the local Meijer's video game section last night, and I came across a huge stack of Mario Kart DD games in their GameCube case. I questioned the employee about them, and he said that they just got them in. Doesn't Mario Kart have a street date, like most other big Nintendo games do?
Most specialty stores like EB and Gamestop won't have them until next week. Just a heads up to all to check your local Superstores to see if they have also gotten it in and started selling it. It may only be less than a week before everyone has it, but I know that there are some of you out there just itching for it.
Oh, and there was no bonus disc included, in case you were curious.

I was told, when I put in my "reservation", that this is coming in next Tuesday?

The street date is tuesday, there are those stores here and there that always get the game early though.
I cant wait for this game!

That's what I've been told as well. I think that we may be getting it a day early or something like that. It just struck me as odd that it was in some stores already, whlie we're waiting on a shipment from Nintendo the day before release. :hmm:

The US streetdate is this Monday (17th). The PAL date is actually this Friday meaning that the US is (again) last region to receive a Cube game...

And what about the bonus disk? Can I try getting it early and still get the disk?

Don't think so. The discs I saw had no mention of a bonus disc. Preorder bonus only, AFAIK.

in germany you only get the bonus disc in the gamecube+mk bundle, not with a lose mario kart at all :(

wow you can turn that retailer into the big "N" and get them in huge amounts of trouble for that, our local wal-mart breaks street dates often and they have gottin find thousands of dollars for it.

We actually called Nintendo about this once. The whole street date issue is kind of a weird one for Nintendo. Those dates aren't really "street dates" like CDs have but a general guideline for the product release. The reason we called was because we wanted out Gamecubes early and they said as soon as we got any Nintendo product in we could sell it. I thought that person might just be guessing so I called back, talked to someone else, and got the same answer. The only thing is that corporations like Gamestop and EB get mad at the manager for a policy that they don't truly understand. Usually when you se Nintendo products in these stores before stated street date is because corporate said they could since everyone else was selling it already.

This happened with mario party 5 too, it's been out nearly a week, and it's release date was tuesday too....The guy who opened the package of games said the strret date sticker that's usually on the box wasn't this time, so he said they sell them now.

I thought it was weird when I saw Mario Party 5 last week at Best Buy. I didn't pick it up there, but decided to at the Best Buy across town later in the evening. They didn't have it & when I asked about it, they said it wouldn't be released until the next week (Nov. 11).
I think it just depends on who's actually putting the games on the shelves.

Anyone going to use Warp Pipe to tunnel and play online? I'm tempted... as much as I love Mario Kart, I hate playing by myself, and have no gaming friends if you can believe that.
Not sure which version to get. US or Japanese.

this raises the question
Can you lan the japanese version and the english version together? This should factor into your decision, unless you are fine with only warppiping with people in japan.

No, the protocols are different. People I know have already tried LANing the Cubes together using different region versions of MKDD without success...

A little Retail secret. Stores ALWAYS get games in a few days ahead of time. Some stores don't care about getting sued and put them out sooner than the Street Date. But most don't. So, the moral here is, hold the store up at gunpoint and DEMAND they sell you a copy a few days ahead of time. ;)
Movies too.
Some items at our store (Kmart) will TELL you if you scan it before time that it can't be sold. Funny thing is the only thing I've seen do this so far was a toy Hot Wheels car.

this is not entirely true! most of the time, stores get the games and stuff before release (it has to be at least one day before cause you have to place the stuff in store before it opens), but often enough (especially in nintendos case) games arrive at street day or even one day to late :(

And it sucks. Especially when I have to explain to the pissed off customer why we don't have the new hot game/CD yet. It's one thing when we get a small amout and it sells out, but when we get none whatsoever...

Obviously stores have the titles early, but movies is a whole nother beast. I always enjoy giving customers a nice cup of shut the fuck up when they say they know I have the movie in back.
"Hey, do you have <insert title>"
"It doesn't come out until Tuesday"
"Oh, I know you have it, can't you slip it to me early dude?"
"Only if you're willing to pay me the fine for breaking street date."
"How much is that?"
"Quarter of a million dollars"
"...oh"
I find a lot of times with games (i've never worked in a game store, just in blockbuster and shitty retail, meijer/k-mart) that they are released whenever they can just get the damn thing shipped(system release is obviously a whole different topic). With movies, it's like clockwork. Release dates don't change, they're set months in advance and are strictly adhered to. Every monday we get the stuff for the following tuesday, and have one week to let the employees screen it all. Sometimes even the stuff for two weeks in advance.

Same with CDs. I worked in a record store. Everytime there was a big release, the manager had to sit in the back and make sure nobody sold a copy of the new CD to their friends before it came out. :)

that's kind of ridiculous, i mean....i guess there are still a bunch of idiots in the world but who knows. if i sold anything like that to my friends it would be like maybe one of my friends that i would trust. other than that, that's ridiculous. what would he say if a worker just took one for himself? LOL

I actually just found out my new store manager isn't opposed to letting employees break release date on purchases. One of the guys I worked with made a comment about wanting the Two Towers box set that we got last week (doesn't come out til this tuesday), she said "Prepay your account for the correct amount and take it home"
