What kind of power supply piece (or battery compartment on the joystick controller) does the VB take is it cheap or common or like one that works with another system?

SNES AC will work fine.

you could get one of these:

I'm not sure of the specs of the AC adapter but I know you need the tap for the controller that the AC adapter plugs into or the one that holds batteries. If you can't find the tap you can hardwire the AC adapter to the metal contacts on the back of the controller. The second VB I found had a power supply hardwired this way. It worked.

SNES AC will work fine.

Only if you hardwire it or have the connector to the controller to plug that AC into...

Oh yeah, forgot about that bulky thing on the controller..... :embarrassed: Anyways, if you have that, THEN a SNES AC will work.
