Best "Hand drawn" 2-D graphics...

Howdy,
I've been playing Chrono Trigger in FF Chronicles on PSOne, and I've really been impressed with the artwork. And it got me thinking, what are some of the games with the best "Hand drawn" 2-D artwork?

I'd start with Chrono Trigger (SNES), Shadow of the Beast (Amiga), Castlevania: SOTN (PSOne), Suikoden II (PSOne) and Gunstar Heroes (Gen).

What do you think? :)

Those are great, and Yoshi's Island is an awesome game, havn't played the other.

I think I posted about this one in the "death of 2d" thread, but Guilty Gera X/X2 has some of the best art I have ever seen.

I think that a lot of the Capcom games have good graphics, but...well I dunno. With sprites that huge it's almost like "cheating" to get a good effect.

The best non-fighting game 2D graphics I've ever seen are on Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2, I guess) - was this ever released in the US?

Metal Slug 3 (Neo Geo). The most beautiful game I've ever played, a true work of art.

Valkyrie Profile
Capcom vs. SNK
Gundam Battle Assault 2
Strider 2
Parappa
Silhouette Mirage

I'm gonna cast my vote towards Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Sure, Guilty Gear has higher resolution, but they don't have the fluid and beautiful animation of that game.

Princess Crown on the Saturn is the single most beautiful hand-drawn game I have ever seen. Fighters like Guilty Gear X2 and SFIII: Third Strike have higher levels of animation, but they don't let you sit back and take it all in. Princess Crown does.

Guilty Gear X2 is a close second, though. I'd say that the gorgeous designs give it an edge over Third Strike.

Valkyrie Profile also gets a nod from me. Along with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it's proof that the PlayStation was capable of amazing 2-D graphics.

One of the best NES games graphicly speaking would be shattered hand the effects are stunning (for nes) music is nicely done story whats the story? anywho its a very nice game i recommend it to you all go ahead and buy it if you havent done so

There was indeed a SNES Kirby...I think it showed up around 1997.

16-bit: prob gunstar heroes
NEO-GEO:Metal slug series
PSX: Metal slug x is a surprisingly faithful port of the NEO GEO classic
Saturn: I was always impressed with Streetfighter Alpha 2 and Nightwarriors they were basically arcade perfect IMAO. man i miss my Saturn.
8-bit: not really sure, maybe the megaman games and, or castlevania games although Double Dragon on mastersystem killed the NES ver.

This'll kill some people, but I'm REALLY really partial to the AoF2 artwork. Yuri and King both look excellent, since they're two of my favorite characters in the neo realm...
