Hi al

last week i posted i got a new part-time job at a electronic retailer (europes biggest) in their video-game segment

well, yesterday (thursday) was my first day, it was the stores opening day, 12.000 customers at one day x_x we sold 4000(!!) dvd players (special opening offer), i think everyone in my city now owns one ;)

as it was also the Mario Kart release day here in germany, i of course bought it and i have to say it's a multiplayer killer-game :)

but i also got some nice other 'scores':

No One Lives Forever 2 (PC) 3.00
Jagged Alliance 2 (2.5) (PC) 1.99
Crazy Taxi (GC) 10.00
'Der Anschlag' (GC) 5.00
free Soul Calibur 2 poster
free X-Box Soul Calibur 2 Demo-Disc

and....

FREE Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (PS2) FULL PROMO VERSION 8-)

it was a veeery long day (12hours) but it was still fun, i could also talk to some guys from EA and some other companies (<< got that promo from the ea guy LOL )

Ah, I remember my days in retail very well. You'll have to endure idiotic customers but it's usually well worth the perks.

Good luck there, Jan!

That's great. ARe those prices USD?

Probably Euro, which makes the prices sound a bit low, but not too bad.

Aber, was ist "Der Anschlag"?

prices are euro, comparing USD and Euro prices is not a thing you can do right now, you know rates have changed from 0.9:1 to nearly 1.2:1, so paying euro might seem expensive from an us point of view, but 5 euro are still 5 euro for europeans, you still get the same things for it, you only get less for your 5 USD over here ;)

'Der Anschlag' is the german name of the movie The Sum Of All Fears, i just couldn't remember the english name when posting :D

the game sucks afaik (haven't played it yet), but i'd buy every current-gen game for 5 euro new ;)

Congrats, Moselboy (or should I call you media markt boy? from now on :)

Great, now you have access to great deals. The last time I was in Germany I bought a new Dreamcast Bangai-O at a Media Markt realtively cheap, otherwise the prices in Europe are still a bit too high for my taste.

The prices for the games you got are really nice.

Hey, don't neglect your studies over this 12hour Media Markt frenzy. :)

I worked for Best Buy for a year, that was about all the retail I could handle. Indeed, the perks were awesome -- I still have my 6' x 6' Star Wars signage for the original VHS release. I was always walking out of that place with free cds, free software ... you name it. Yeah, customers suck sometimes but more often than not I just walked around talking to people. My time was basically split into thirds, first in the computer area, second in the computer software area, and third in the computer booth.

I also worked a couple of oteams (opening team) where you went to a new store and helped them the week of their grand opening. A lot of sore backs and feet that week, but all the hard work paid off.

On strike??? :) When I was a freshman at the University of Freiburg, the students went on strike because the tuition for the entire semester (information for US citizens: independently from the number of courses taken) went up from $15 to $25. (no joke)

Americans find it ridiculous, and I think rightfully so. An American student pays $3000 to $4000 tuition per semester. Yep!! How much is the tuition fee in the meantime in Germany (Baden-Wuerttemberg)?

The only ones who profit from strikes are the instructors. When students
strike they strike against themselves. :) A strike is only effective if you hurt someone financially, no University or instructor gets hurt because of a strike. :)

i do pay 125 euro per semester, i don't know how much it is in BW

btw: there would be no freakin way how my parents or i could pay something like 3000 bucks per semester, that's why it's good we don't have something like that over here, equal chances for everyone
