According to published news sources, IBM is now the vendor for the main processor in all three of the next round of game systems. Here's the story:

In addition, ATI has signed on to make the graphics processor for the next Nintendo and Microsoft systems.

True, the article does mention that the processors may all be totally different, but it also speculates that while the Sony chip is being developed separately, the other two systems may get the same chip.

Nice to see that Big Blue isn't out of the race yet.

For all those Macinsoft, er, Apple users out there, this might lead to a system that actually competes against the Wintel platform in the future. IBM wasn't in the healthiest spot there for quite a while as they were making processors for a market that didn't have the same sort of competition the PC market did for incremental speed boosts...glad the workstation market's been good to their business.

This poses quite a dilemma for Nintendo fanboys. How will they be able to continue their pastime of whining that the inferior Xbox is just a stripped down PC? I suppose they'll say that Nintendo are innovators because they were the first to use PC parts to build their console. AND they have 4 joyports!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!
