Starting in December, Square Enix plans to release four of its more popular PlayStation RPGs as part of Sony's Greatest Hits program. Scheduled to hit the market again for under $20 and bear the hated neon-green stripe are:

* Final Fantasy Anthology

* Final Fantasy Chronicles

* Vagrant Story

* Xenogears

The four join Square Enix's two biggest PlayStation 2 RPGs, Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts, which already entered the budget-price ranks earlier this year.

Secondary-market values for all four games are expected to plummet precipitously between now and their imminent re-release, so cancel your Ebay bids now.

It's no big deal for Vagrant Story (which sells for twenty bucks new, anyway), but Xenogears, Anthology, and Chronicles currently run $45-50 used at EB and Gamestop. However, I noticed that none of the four re-issues appear on EB's release schedule yet. Perhaps that's just the nature of Greatest Hits titles.

Anyway, there goes the prediction that Xenogears would end up as the PlayStation's Chrono Trigger.

I already have all four of those, but that's still cool news. I have a friend who would like to pick up FF Chronicles, but doesn't feel like paying a lot of money for two games he already has. Maybe this will help him out.

Crap, there goes any resale value. x_x I bought all four games new and have played and loved them since. Not that I ever WOULD resell them, but I hate the fact it won't be worth anything now. :(

Kind of annoying to see 4 great titles defaced with that neon green stripe from hell, but other than that it's good news. I too own all 4 games and don't have any remorse about them losing value, they weren't going anywhere anyways.

That's good news to me, as I don't have Anthology (I regret passing it on when I had a chance to get it). However, a question that bears asking: will the GH version have the music CD included or not?

Personally, since I'm a gamer rather than a collector, I don't really care whether my game has a black or a fluorescent green spine, so that's really good news. :)

Hav eyou guys actually bothered going to squares store on their site they have xenogears for 29.99, and anthology as well as chronicles. But I am glad for the gh status. I just want to know why people hate greatest hits status so much. I am waiting for the front mission games being out and re-released!!!!!!!!!!!!

The load time is not really THAT bad. I've seen worse issues in games. Does'nt stop me from playing them. Heck, I sold my old SNES ones once these remakes came out. :)

Great news, good news, except for Vagrant Story I don't have the FF games and Xenogear. Thank goodness I waited when I thought about buying these games a couple of months ago.

However, I bought Vagrant Story over a month ago from the Amazon.com Marketplace for 40 bucks, and it just shipped last wednesday. On top of that, the case is really beaten up and there's a disc-encompassing sticker that kills the disc if I try to remove it. It sports the label of a Video rental store. But it doesn't matter, at least I have the game.


I've got one question, though. When is MGS2: Substance gonna be reduced to GH price?
