Well, I suppose there's not much you can say about DDR that this review doesn't already say. I still feel uninformed, though: What exactly is the nature of these FMVs? Do any particular tunes stand out? Even a blurb about how well the various kinds of pads stand up to each other (and to the arcade game itself) might have been nice.

7/10

Informative, concise, and practical.

I still have a problem with statements like this: "Ask anyone to name an arcade game that they've played the last time they have visited one, and chances are they might say Dance Dance Revolution." Too generic and vague.

What's a four panel stage? As a former theater worker, I think of a raised platform to perform for an audience on when I think stage. It's confusing. Then mats? What's going on here? Do I need a whole gym to play this in? For a music-based game there's precious little about the MUSIC and what there is leaves me with more questions. *sigh* I want to like it, but it's a 7/10 here.

Sounded a little too off about the game in some paragraphs.

With that I was simply trying to show how popular the game is, granted you won't find DDR in *every* arcade, but that's probably just a territorial thing (most machines are probably found in CA as it is, though there are probably more sprinkled throughout the country, I can't vouch for them ;) )

maxlords: you're correct; I should have elaborated more on the game's musical selection...

It's not what you were saying, but more how you said it.

It's like saying, "ask anyone who has been outside today what the weather was like, and chances are they might say it was raining."

I don't think California owns all the DDR games -- there's one in our local Burger King.

One intersting angle I would like to see if a review of DDR which explains it's popularity. One of the biggest things about this game seems to be how younger people love it and older people hate it. It would be interesting to mention that and go into why a little bit.

Very informative and discusses the various modes of the game well. It would have been nice to list some examples of the songs, and especially note if these songs are unique to this particular version of DDR.

Flack: well I guess it varies, people of practically any age can play the game (especially with the beginner mode, with practice anyone can get relatively good at the game) but your average DDR player is probably 16-24 or somewhere in that range, I guess I didn't know how thorough I should be with my review (I didn't want it turning into an 8-page thing)

Voodoo: Point taken, I should have listed more than a handful of songs, even though the full list is available elsewhere online.

It's not possible for me to go back and fix these mistakes, is it? Or do I just have to move onto a different game entirely and submit another entry? Just curious.

I thought it was a good try. It would have been better if you put a picture of the mat though. Not essential, but it always helps if it has an odd controller.

I wish i had a DDR in my Burger King...

I'll take a picture of it sometime. In the Burger King right near my house, they replaced the "indoor playground" with an arcade. Sure, it's mostly games like NFL Blitz and the DDR like I mentioned earlier, but around here you take what you can get!

Eh, I kinda agree with Maxlords. Not enough in the review about the music. Seems like you kinda assumed everyone reading has basic knowledge of DDR...still a nice review. I'll go with the predictable 7/10. ^_^

I hate to sound like a scratched cd...but...

while the review does a good job of explaining the basics of DDR itself, I have to know more about the music!

I would have also probably talked more about the videos (particularly if there were any that were distracting).

OK, not great though.

Overall: Too descriptive, almost no analysis/evaluations!

major strength:
the reviewer gives a great impression about the game; the reader knows how the game plays, what kind of game it is, and what kind of options it offers.

major weakness:
There is a CLEAR lack of the main purpose of a review: no evaluations! (except for:...what is there does the job.") We know how the game plays and what it's about, but is the gameplay convincing and WHY? Are the graphics and videos appropriate for this kind of game, are the controls responsive, did the game achieve what it sets out to achieve? The reviewer describes, but he doesn't analyze/evaluate the game in the review itself. In the end, the review content doesn't give any hints how the reviewer came to the overall evaluation grades.

OVERALL: 4/10

Tonight will be the last batch of "cuts".

If your review isn't locked at midnight tonight, you're entitled to the Digital Press subscription, and your review will be moved onto the main contest site.

Unfortunately, not every review will make it.

This one is getting cut. Low review scores from our judges and forum. Sorry! Thanks for playing though... there are lots more contests coming up :)
