6/10 (Pretty Good)

This is the most confusing review I've come across yet.

In the core content, the reviewer goes through some of the game's issues, like iffy mission-based structure, hard-to-manage controls, and occasionally frustrating difficulty. This is all great stuff to know, even through there didn't seem to be much a positive counterpoint to these issues.

You can imagine my surprise, then, when I notice that the overall review for this is a "9", with the gameplay being described as "fun" in the final paragraph. Funny, judging by the rest of the reviewer, it sounded a bit disappointing.

This is a weird review. It covers the info, but the love isn't there, and it vascillates from one opinion to the other. No flow. 6/10

Nothing much to say that hasn't already been said. The review gave me the impression that although Jak II looks good and has some positive aspects, it has too many problems to qualify as "fun." Certainly that's at odds with high ratings and the positive closing.

6/10

6 of 10

Didn't quite make sense at all.

7.

In reality I would go 6, except it's better than some of the others I have given 6's to, so I have to go 7. The voice wavered throughout the review, but I thought this person spent more time than many/most on grammar and spelling. As previously mentioned, it's odd that s/he would recommend a platformer described as having control problems.

* Awkward grammar throughout.

* Needless and pointless opening paragraph. And which magazine is "OMP"?

* The second paragraph (regarding the storyline) ends with: "Some people consider it a bad thing, others think it’s cool." I don't care what "some people" think -- I care what YOU think. Tell me if you like the story or don't, and give me the reasons for your opinion.

* There's an out-of-nowhere comparison between the controls of Jak II and Super Mario Sunshine -- the second mention of SMS in the review. This makes me think the reviewer's platform-game experience is very limited, since it's the only cross-reference he can come up with.

* "Ultra" is used as a prefix. Ugh.

* "It sucks" is used as a critical comment. UGH.

* The reviewer talks about "the PS2's age" (which is totally irrevelant) and its "final last breaths" (as opposed to its earlier last breaths?).

* Why did the reviewer choose to review a sequel to a game he hasn't played, leaving him unable to compare and contrast Jak II with the original?

2/10.

Tonight will be the last batch of "cuts".

If your review isn't locked at midnight tonight, you're entitled to the Digital Press subscription, and your review will be moved onto the main contest site.

Unfortunately, not every review will make it.

This one is getting cut. Low review scores from our judges and forum. Sorry! Thanks for playing though... there are lots more contests coming up :)
