I really don't see the point of strategy, especially that much, in a review. It's good up until the end. 8/10

The instructions page stated that Strategy was an 'intangible' that should be added if at all possible. So, I did. :)

I was about to go for 8/10, but there's too much extraneous information here. I feel that the organization is a bit off, too.

7/10.

While the review was for the most part well-written, a lot of the piece seemed more like a collection of tips for playing the game, or an instruction manual, rather than a review.

There was also the completely wrong use of the word 'secular'. If you aren't sure about a word, look it up! (hint: www.dictionary.com)

"Secular"? I put 'Spectacular'. Nothing spectacular about the sound effects. DP said he ran a spellchecker through it. Must've been a typo it turned into 'secular'.

And about the hints .. DP *said* to put in Strategy tips if at all possible. And people are counting off points for doing it? :(

Here it is on http://www.digitalpress.com/reviews/:

Include these "intangibles" if possible:

Strategy: not just easter eggs, as a player, what are your tips for winning?

Personally I LIKE having strategy like this in a review. Look, it's easy enough to skip past and strategy (not just codes) are nice if you're reading a review for a game you already own. It puts something in a game review that anyone looking up the game can enjoy. In the "old days", we used to have playing tips at the bottom of all of our reviews, and to this day I go back to look them up.

Most review sites are for current systems, for games that have just come out or are coming out. Digital Press is a historical/resource site, so it's important to have reviews that still provide some value, even years after the game's release.

As for that spelling error, I guess that was my fault! I've fixed it.

Sorry about that, then. DP - change the score I assigned to an 8, please. Thanks!

Thanks :) But still, that was funny as hell-- T-Mek features non-secular sound effects. ;D

Well, fair's fair I suppose. I also change my score to 8/10.

All hail the holy sound effects! ;)

There is a good amount of information about the aspects of the game. I don't think anything from strategy on down is really neccessary in a game review though.

I could do without the strategy and cheats. I just find things like that to be superfluous. Gimme the review, and the review alone. Other than that, the piece is a good read, covers the all the necessary subjects, and has some very good screen grabs. Fine review.

7.5/10

Here's a very good review. I appreciate all the time the reviewer put into the strategy, but it's almost too much. Also, this writer did a good job of talking about multiple versions of a game without forgetting to talk about the game itself. It doesn't flow very well, and the language could use a little tightening up but it's still a good read. With an editor's help, this could be golden.

Score: 8

I'm giving this one a 9/10.

This was one of my favorites in the contest. The first thing that crossed my mind when I finished reading this for the first time was "now here is someone who really KNOWS this game". Reviews are often written by people who haven't developed a real bond with the game (good or bad), and that sometimes shows in the lack of detail in a review. Not this one! Lots of detail but well organized and interesting. I skipped past the strategy but I do like seeing these in reviews, as I now have a place to go back should I ever want to master the game myself. Excellent.
