Hmm indeed. Not TOO worrisome, if only because the market has been in such bad shape for a while. Lousy economic turmoil! If they have a good holiday season, they might bounce right back to their original goals.

The got rid of their best software developer for cash. No matter what they say they wouldn't have sold RARE if they were not in trouble. If I was a share holder I would have dumped my stock the second I heard that rumor.

But Nintendo is a great game company with many mascots and fans. If I was a betting man I would wait until Nintendo's stock is near worthless (pretty soon  ) and buy a bunch of it. It has to go up after Nintendo dumps console making.

Wow, what a world that would be...no Nintendo OR Sega consoles. It'd be like the twilight zone or something.

I used to say the same about Atari :)

I hope that you're not referring to the same RARE that only makes incredibly boring search-and-find crap anymore. They should have tossed them ages ago. I'm quite glad that they actually got some cash for them.

According to some Japanese Paper (Can't remember which) Nintendo was rated #1 overall in a list of japanese companies. I'll see if I can find the article next time I'm at work.

I don't say this often but you sir, are a moron. Rare made Nintendo's best games.. have sense the SNES. I don't think people realize just how many Nintendo titles have the Rare name. Anyone who can call the company who brought us Conker's Bad Fur Day or DKC as boring doesn't know anything about Nintendo in the last 10 years.

Unfortunately, the economy is not based on anything concrete. Tell people that a company is in trouble, and they'll react accordingly- making the problem worse, which makes people REALLY panic, which further hurts things, which will make people...we saw something like this with the dot.com fiasco of the 1990s, only in reverse.

Is Nintendo really in trouble, or just in a slump?

Nintendo are just suffering from the whole economic slow-down of the whole japanese market. Most companies based there are losing money.

nintendo didn't get any cash for selling rare..because they didn't sell them. rare is a seperate company that sold themselves..they gave nintendo the opportunity to buy them and nintendo said no because rare only made them 1% profit this year. so rare put the for sale sign up.
