I am currently looking to buy a sega master system again, I had a lightly used master system mint in the box, but it got thrown out by parents when I moved a year ago.

But anyhow here is my question, What if any is the difference between a SMS and a SMS II???

I believe SMS 1's have a hidden built in game (Not the "featured" built in game) and comes packed with Hang On Astro Warrior. SMS 2's have Alex Kid In Miracle World as a bulit in game.

Ok, so other than the design is that the only difference?

Games.

Some games came on cards instead of cartridges.

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. The SMS 2 is a neat little machine, though not as feature packed as the original SMS, it is definitly worth the money if this is your introduction to the Sega Master System.

SMS 1- card slot for games and 3D glasses
SMS2- no slot

SMS 1- has jack for composite video out
SMS 2 - RF out only

hands down, the SMS1 is a superior piece of hardware. I want a SMS2 at some point, but solely for the collection, not to actually use. I can't stand RF.

I was going to write this exact thing. The AV outs on the SMS1 make it the clear winner, but you probably will want to have a spare SMS2 also since some of the Brazillian carts will only work on it -- dont know how hard you're looking to get into the SMS though and this may not be relevant. That's a good deal for the two SMS2's, so Id get that, but Id try and get an SMS1 eventually.

Really? my SMS II's got pretty strong RF output, looks almost as good as AV.

I can't bear the RF output from my PAL MS II's.
But I don't have to, since it's all lovely 60Hz RGB through my PBC :)
