I'm considering getting a GameCube for this Christmas, and I'd like to know what games would be good to get.

I plan to get Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and I am considering RoboTech Battlecry. I want games that contain fast action, preferably shooter games with a lot of weaponry, explosions, fast-paced gunplay, explosions, cool stuff like that. I don't like sports or racing games. I'm a big fan of shooters, especially first-person and top-scrolling / side-scrolling shooters, like DoDonPachi, Raiden, Aero Fighters / Sonic Wings, etc. 2-Player games are a plus, as I'd like to play against my friends.

Also, I have a very small TV-- 12" or so-- so I am thinking I'd get a VGA Converter and use my 19" PC Monitor instead. Is the quality good with these devices? Does the resolution actually increase on the machine when it is used, or is the same resolution just stretched onto the monitor? Also, what resolution does the GameCube natively run at?

Thanks to anyone who replies with some advice! :)

Ya got Ikaruga for a shooter, and Metroid Prime :)

I'd also suggest you get a GameBoy Player. Looks like I'm finally going to finish Zelda: Link to the Past LOL

Well, I have a GBA and if I want to play these games on a bigger screen, I may as well just run an emulator. :) As for Ikaruga, I can't stand that game .. no powerups, the enemies dance around and wait to be shot at, it's too short, there's only one song in the whole game .. but let's not get into that any further.

I might get prime, I'm considering it.. at least it has auto-aim so I will not have so much trouble adjusting to it from my PC Mouse/keb combo..

i will absolutely second the Ikaruga and Metroid:Prime remarks made by Ed... damn good games, and both are are absolutely stunning in the graphics dept... they definitely show off the system.

also, it's not a shooter ... but damn is it fast paced. Bomberman Generations is a truly worthy addition to the Bomberman series, and great multiplayer fun.

hmmmm, I recommend Viewtiful Joe.......It's not really a shooter. but it's a pretty good adventure game. it's also unbelievably hard to get anywhere, or atleast i think so and i think i've heard others agree. but it's good fun, might wanna look into hittin a kiosk and playing it

Super Smash Bros Melee
F-Zero GX (yes, it's a racing game, but a damn excellent one)
Animal Crossing
Eternal Darkness

All A+ titles. Not exactly fitting to your wants/desires, but games you should check out at some point.
