Beat-em-ups: The Slow, medium, or fast guy?

When you decide to go with a beat-em-up to kill time, which character will you choose using the standard BEU style? The slow but mega powerful (i.e. Haggar), Somewhat faster but weaker (I.e. Cody), or hyper fast but really weak (ie. Guy). Keep in mind that I'm not just talking about Final Fight, just a generalization.

I'm one for the fast guys. I love busting up combo's at a rapid pace leaving them no time to couter. It looks cooler too IMHO.

I'm a sucker for chicks, so of course I go with Tyris Flare in Golden Axe. I'd have gone with her clone in Alien Storm (insanely funny ending sequence to that one by the way), but ended up lumbered with ol' Blue "Bad Breath" Duuude.

I like using the fast characters the best, followed by the slow but powerful ones (especially if they're wrestlers). The all-arounders don't interest me much, as they never excel in any one area.

Same here. For example in Final Fight I will either use Guy or Haggar but I'll never use Cody because are ManekiNeko said he doesn't excel in any one area.

Let's see... I kick the most ass with Cody in Final Fight, Axel in Streets of Rage, Ax Battler in Golden Axe, Wade in Violent Storm... I favor the balanced fighters the most. The powerful fighters would be second. Dutch is my favorite character in Alien vs. Predator. I don't usually favor the fast fighters for some reason. Probably because they die in the fewest hits, and evasive maneuvers aren't exactly my strong suit. Even with the fast characters, I find myself overwhelmed by enemies, and I can't move because they're all around me. Fast characters die too soon. Then again, power fighters go real slow, and it's tedious to play as them. Overall, it's the balanced variety of characters for me.

I didn't vote because I choose the 'freak' of the game, regardless of speed/power. Blanka, Voldo, etc. are always my first pics. 8-)

I usually use the balanced characters in beat em' ups, but tend to use the power characters in 2D fighters. Tizoc, Zangief, Hugo, and Raiden are my favorites because they seem to belt out the most damage for the least amount of work.

I voted for the slow guys...I figure, if I can knock someone out with one fewer punch, that's hundreds of button presses I'm saving over the length of a game, thereby saving my controllers!!!

Her slide-stab-fireball combo also kicks ass, and I've yet to discover an equally effective technique in the other characters.

My dad and I used to argue over Haggar vs Cody back when the first SNES Final Fight came out. I say Haggar all the way. :D

I either take the slow ass powerful one who kill you in 2 shots or i take those really fast ones who take more hits but are easier to hit with but for most of the time i take the stronger ones, i want absolute power. :evil:

well for example SC2 i usualy take nightmare cuz he can destroy you in about 5 shots but hes kinda slow (altho when u know all his moves hes not that slow) cervantes is pretty much in the middle and maxi is strong and fast and hes just a God damn cheat you press 2 or 3 buttons and it looks like hes doing some big ass combo. :angry:
