Hey all, it's about that time (if not already) for Xbox Live subscriptions to be renewed, so I have a question (I'll be damned if I can find it on their site and my instructions are 60 m. away)

Does your gamer tag get "id'ed" to your system so no one else can use it? Meaning, if I don't renew right away is there a chance someone can get my gamer tag, or is it "mine" as in "my systems" for good?

Your gamer tag isn't really "locked" to your Xbox. Your system acts more like your accounts "home" in a way. Example: you go to your friends house, you can copy your live account to your memory unit, and use it on your friend's Xbox.

If you forget to bring your memory unit with you, you can choose "account recovery" and enter your credit card info again, and it will make your friend's Xbox you account's home. Now, if you go back home, your Xbox will not let you get online using your account because your friends Xbox is now your accounts home. You'll have to do another account recovery to get your account back on your Xbox.

Make sense? Confused?

Otherwise, once someone picks a gamertag, it's used forever, regardless of wheter that person renews their subsription or not.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks. :)
