Action Replay Max help (PS2)

I just picked one of these up today, and I'm having problems with it.

I used some codes in FFX, and it worked fine. I played some, didn't save, turned it off, decided to try somethings else. I used the same codes as before, plus one extra (all pre-loaded codes). Now, when I try to start the game, it won't come up. I just get a blank, black screen.

Is my AR Max defective? Should I trade it in for a Game Shark, instead? What's the deal?

Looks like I'll have to call Datel's customer support, since I can't get any replies on their forum either.

I've looked at these, but haven't taken the plunge yet for fear of this kind of thing happening.

I've never had a problem with my AR. It sounds like the code you are using just isn't working and is crashing the game.
Have you tried it "Without codes" ? Just to make sure that it's still working ?
Also the Game Shark is basically the exact same software. I have both and they have the same codes and interface.
