I'm so happy! I recently came home from the video store with an new (that is to say, never played) Dreamcast for merely 50 bucks in Canadian dollars. I was offered a couple of games for 7 bucks each, are any of the following really good: Virtua Fighter 3tb, Blue Stinger, Trickstyle? I ask because I have very lttle money to spare.
Anyways, I set it up next to my brother's SNES and Sega CD, and my PS2. Alas, I've got no VMU, nor do I know anywhere to buy one. Overall I'm really freakin' happy with this. Thoughts?

Congrats! It's a great system, I played some today with a friend and bought a new (to me, anyway!) game for it today as well. I'd pass on all of those games you mentioned, unless they particularly pique your interest. For starters I'd recommend these titles:
Virtua Tennis
Jet Grind Radio
Speed Devils
Power Stone
Crazy Taxi
Soul Calibur
....and once you get a little more into it, these:
Bangai-O
Capcom vs SNK
Last Blade 2
MDK2
Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage
A VMU shouldn't be too hard to find, by the way. Congrats, it's a great system I'm sure you'll enjoy!

Out of thoae games, only Virtua Fighter is really any good. Blue Stinger is a poor ripoff of Resident Evil, and Trickstyle is a crap hover-board racing game.

Personally, I LOVED Blue Stinger. :)

You don't know how great the Dreamcast is, but you will find out. :D
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is one of the greatest fighting games ever. Toy Commander rocks. Jet Grind Radio and both Power Stone games are the bomb. Also check out Giga Wing 2 and Mars Matrix if you're into shooters (which I like to call Shmups.)
EDIT: Oh, BTW, Capcom vs. SNK also is one great game. I still need to get CvS2, though.

Agreed. Agreed. This is my personal favorite game of all time. If you like fighting games, then check this out. Also if you really enjoy shmups, get Bangai-O. It is pretty challenging, but is hella fun.

I prefered Capcom vs. SNK over Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but both are excellent fighters. Long live 2D!
It's just a shame you missed out on the glory days of Phantasy Star Online, when it was free and wasn't plagued with cheaters.

Just adding a voice to the choir here: I got my DC and PS2 in the same week and the DC gets far more playtime than the PS2, which has been largely relegated to being a secondary DVD. It's a magnificent little machine and it's a shame it didn't see a longer life.
In addition to the titles already recommended, you might also want to look at a tank fighting title called Wild Metal. Good fun, especially in 2-player mode.

I also agree that the Dreamcast was a great console.
But its kind of funny...
When the Dreamcast was still a live console and sold in stores I would see people constantly bashing it saying that it couldn't hold a candle to the PS2. Now that the console is dead all I hear are praises for the console. I'd be curious if any of today's priasers were yesterday's bashers and have seen the light.

I was actually never a big fan of Sega until the Dreamcast. I had a Genesis back in the day, but it just never did it for me. I wound up selling it to a friend. I admit it, I laughed at Dreamcast when it came out. At that time I was still Nintendo-only.
But then a friend of mine played MvC2 on DC up at college. He loved it and bought a DC the next time he came home. I happened to be with him at the time, and we stayed up all night playing MvC2 and CvS. The next day he bought a few more games, and I knew I had to have a DC. If only for the great 2D fighters!
After that, I realized Sega was a really great gaming company, and I bought another Genesis, and then a Saturn... and then started buying everything I could get my hands on! :D
So Dreamcast (and Capcom and SNK) are responsible for starting my collecting habit.

Record of Lodoss War is a good game.
Dont' forget to head over to the import section. There's a few good import only games (a lot of bad ones too).

Thanks for the info on the various games you mentioned. Several of them I had already been planning to buy for a while. I just wanted your opinions on the three I mentioned previously, because various review sites had different opinions. In any event, here are the ten games I'm striving towards getting:
-Soul Calibur
-Shenmue
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-Toy Commander
-Jet Grind Radio
-Resident Evil: Code Veronica
-Power Stone (I have a friend that goes crazy at the mention of this game)
-Skies of Arcadia
-Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
-Crazy Taxi
If only I had a VMU. :(

I'm from Stittsville, and I got it at Showbiz video. They also have a never-opened N64 (two I think), PSX, PS2, GC and tons of new games for PSX, PS2, N64, GBA, XBOX, GC, DC, etc. ranging from $10-$60 apiece. Plus they rent PSX, N64, PS2, GC and XBOX games as well.
It's not far from the Flea Market, actually. It's on Main Road.

I beleive if you buy a complete copy of Seaman you get a VMU with it.
Seaman is a rather intriguing (and disturbing) virtual pet simulation.
Make sure you buy it complete because beside the vmu and the required microphone the manual is extremely helpful in helping you raise your seaman (it contains useful hints).

If you like shooters, dont forget to pick up Mars Matrix! The bosses are great, the bullet reflection is godly, and the unlocking system will keep you coming back for more.
I'd also like to recommend Mark of the Wolves. Nice fighter!
I think Toys R Us (TRU) is currently blowing out their dreamcast stuff. I think you can get VMUs for about $2 US each.
But then I'm not sure if you have TRUs in Ottawa (or Canada in general for that matter).

Don't forget about the Sega bass fishing games or Sega marine fishing. :D

Oh, there are quite definitely TRUs in Canada. One of my earliest memories was wandering around in a TRU when I was a young one (it was the 80s, and they had those "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid" commercials, and Lego and sweet commercials too). And there's a TRU near a Best Buy downtown. So, I'll go there for sure.

Don't forget about the Sega bass fishing games or Sega marine fishing.
You really need the fishing controllers for those games though.
It's like playing Samba De Amigo without the maracas, it's fun but not really the same game.
*sniff* I miss my DC...

Virtua Tennis is probably the best tennis game I have everplayed in my life. Sega Marin Fishing isn pretty cool to, cause of the aquarium and awsome controller.
