The moment you've all been waiting for has arrived!

Secret Santa Assignments 2003

This is the biggest one yet! So big, in fact, that I had to get a Santa's Helper. Achika has agreed to give me a hand with this, so here's what we're going to have you do:

1. All participants from AdamG to Hydrox will have Achika as their contact. You will need to email her at: achika69@hotmail.com

2. All participants from IGotTheDot to YoshiM, and Achika (so she won't know who her Santa is!) will have me as your contact. You will need to email me at: jamoreau@gwi.net ***PLEASE NO PMs!*** It's too confusing.

3. All emails need to contain the following:
- "Secret Santa" as the subject. Please really use this. Don't be a wiseguy and put something else to be smart; I have an email filter set up for this. If you don't put "Secret Santa" as the subject, my junk mail filter will not let it through, and it may get deleted.
- Your REAL name as well as forum handle (please make sure of this!)
- Your mailing address
- A want list, and I'd recommend at least fifteen items on it.
***PLEASE DON'T BUY ITEMS YOU PUT ON YOUR WANTLIST FOR YOURSELF, OR YOU MAY RECIEVE DUPLICATES!***
- If you're not on the list below, then you didn't sign up, or were excluded from participating. Questions? Ask me.

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR LISTS NO LATER THAN THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd

4. Once you have sent in your wantlist, either I or Achika will reply back to tell you who you will be playing Santa for, along with their addresses and want lists. If you have any problems with the list, PLEASE LET US KNOW. If you need more options, LET US KNOW. We'll email the person back and see if they can add a few more things to their lists.

5. As stated before, it's okay to either pull something out of your trade/duplicate/spare items pile. However, if you can't find something the person has listed, you do have the option of buying something from a store or from eBay. To keep this reasonable, I'd like to set a spending limit of $25. We don't want you to be a Grinch, but we're not looking for Daddy Warbucks either!

6. Another reminder, if you're buying from eBay: Ask before you bid. Some sellers will have a problem shipping an item to someone other than the buyer, or may have delays in shipping. If you go this route, PLEASE ask for delivery confirmation. It can save a lot of headaches. I won't make it mandatory, but anyone that wants to do so is definitely encouraged.

7. If for ANY reason at ALL, you are having problems with this, LET US KNOW! If you think you won't be able to participate after all, if you run into personal problems, financial problems, ANY problems, you need to tell us. No one will give you a hard time if you back out gracefully. But if you DON'T tell us, and get a gift without giving, you'll get more than coal in your stocking for the next year.

8. One last note: Please email to tell us when you've shipped your gift. This helps us keep track of things, in case we run into problems. Once again, I'd advise shipping no later than December 16th, due to the usual holiday post office chaos. This will almost guarantee your gift will arrive on time, and no one will be left out in the cold on Christmas day.
***ALSO!*** Please write "Secret Santa" somewhere on the box when you ship. Last year a few people opened their packages right off because they thought they were from eBay auctions they'd won. If everyone could do this, then it'll be just that much easier to get people to wait until Christmas. I can't make you give your gift back if you don't wait, but please see #9 below!

9. I lied, one more note :) I'd like to ask everyone to keep who they have a secret, until we start an offical thread about this, probably on Christmas eve or day. Then everyone can share all at once, okay? Same goes with your gift. If you just CANNOT wait until Christmas to open it, please don't tell anyone what you got until the official thread starts.

PLEASE email the address listed above for me. I use several computers during the day and all the other email accounts that I use (that some of you have the address for) get dumped into outlook and off of webbased. I want to keep this webbased so I can track the list at home & work.

I read through the post three times...so I hope I didn't miss this...but what is the cutoff date for actually sending our lists? I intend on working on one tomorrow, so it shouldn't be a problem...just don't want someone sending in their list on Dec. 15 :)

One question...

If we have troubles thinking of particular titles, could we name genres that we like?

Thanks!

punkoffgirl
11-19-2003, 12:22 AM
Hmm.. thanks, Scooter. I didn't notice I hadn't put a cut-off date. I'll have to talk with Achika tomorrow and see what we come up with. I'll be sure to update my post when we do.

Yes, it's fine to use genres, junglehunter! It gives your Santa more options that way, but it's also possible they might send you something you already have!

Just sent my email. My want list is quite short :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't see the initial sign up thread. I guess I'm working too hard. I'm out of the loop unfortunately on this one. Damnit.

If I may add one suggestion (POG, take this under consideration): Try to keep yourself from opening your gift before Christmas Day, when we can all open our SS gifts and post what we got. Last year, some folks ripped into theirs as soon as they got it and posted "Thank YOus," effectively IDing the SS to the Forum. So try to keep from opening before Xmas.

And - just in case someone wasn't aware that the box they just got isn't an eBay order, may I suggest writing "Santa" somewhere on the lid? THat will clue the recipient that this is the unopenable SS present.

And, with that, e-mail sent. :D

I've sent my list in.

Incidentally, if the person who gets me can't find any of the FM Towns Marty or Bandai Pippin games SEALED, then you can send me the Steel Batallion controller instead.

Thanks! It's gonna be a wonderful Christmas, I can feel it.

List sent. Kinda generic, as I am more into the gift giving side of things.

But, if my SS happens to send a Steel Batalion for the Xbox, that'd be really sweet :D

Perhaps I overlooked this, but shouldn't we also include in our emails the things that we have in our tradeboxes that we can give? I ask this because I have some specific items that I have earmarked and am ready to send. I want to make sure that I get someone who would like these. Would this facilitate the assigning of Secret Santas?

assigning was totally random I do believe, and no one was "paired up" based on previous factors. Jaime will send you the recievers address and want list.

My esteemed colleague is 100% correct. The drawings were completely random, names were written on a piece of paper, then tossed into the lovely Pac Man glass Tim gave me in Vegas, and drawn out at random by my lovely assistant, which was my roommate Dan. Sorry, Kevin, but we're just not doing things that way.

One more note: You are not guaranteed to get ANYTHING on your list. Your Santa will try their best, but please don't pitch a fit if they were unable to find you a specific title, especially for older consoles. You are guaranteed by the bloody bones of The Young Game Collector to get SOMETHING, however.

In other words, please try to make your list as generic and wide-ranging as possible, and don't just give a list of three and only three specific titles or something.

I sent my email last night or so, and made an effort to be wondrously vague. Half the fun will be concocting a crazy love package for a stranger I know only through the internet, the other half will be the surprise comprised for me!

I gather the addresses and lists won't be handed out until everyone's sent them in? I like to kill the shopping / gift procuring process early as possible.

Well.. I've been sending them out as I get them, I'm sure this is what Achika is doing. For instance, if you send in your list, we can send it on to YOUR Santa if they've already written to us. But if they haven't, we don't have an email address to send it to. Does that make sense?
I think last year I had people sign up first, then send me their want lists, THEN I picked names. I switched the last two this year. We'll see how it works.

I sent my list in last night. I made it pretty simple... included a link to my site with EVERY game I need... thats about 400+ NES games & various other systems. :D

Hopefully cross border shipping doesn't take too long... Since I don't do ebay I am going to have to find something fast and send it out for it to arrive in time.

:embarrassed: I was waiting till I got all the want lists, but I'll start sending out emails now (I've got about 1/3+ of my lists 'wants') How about having your "want list" submitted to us by 11-26-2003? That gives people about 3 weeks to find, compile, and ship their package?

something i'd like to add to this:

always remember that there are not only US collectors on the lists, your secret santa could also be a european!!! and if i do receive a list with only us games, if i don't own it you will get something not on your list, so please at least try to include games from every region

What do you mean by reply email? Do you mean the name, addy, and want list for the person you're shopping for? If so, then the email title will be whatever they titled it in the first place, which should be "Secret Santa" if it's coming from me.

And I have not replied back to anyone yet to tell them I recieved their list, althought I have sent a few lists out to some Santas.

I'd like to ask everyone to keep who they have a secret, until we start an offical thread about this, probably on Christmas eve or day.

Well that won't work with me since the person I got knows who I am. :o

Anyway...does it matter when we ship or just do it by the 16th? I got lucky and actually have a bunch of stuff the person wanted so mine will probably go out sooner than later.
