I'm looking for ROMS that will work with VICE, as well as maybe a programming manual. Actually, a simple list of what memory locations to poke for different effects would suffice.
While I'm blathering, how about a ROM of the original Temple of Apshai for the C-64? I can only find the Temple of Apshai Trilogy, which I consider inferior.

Ahh, good old Vic. He's my old old friend. :)
Try Funet:

BTW: I am surprised to find some of my groups old demos there as well. Look for "Entity" and "Exilir" demos in the C64 section! :)

How do I get these .prg files to work with VICE? I attach them as cartridge images and nothing happens except the loss of some memory, it won't let me attach them as disks or tapes, and if I use autostart I get gibberish. x_x
I never have this problem attaching .d64 files to the VICE C-64.

You have to select the top file option "Autostart file" thingy in Vice to load the PRG files properly. They are not cartridges or ROMs. Only cartridge images (CRT) can be called ROMs for C64/Vic20, the others are either program files (PRG), tape images (T64 or TAP) or disc images (D64).
Of course you might be accidentally trying to load a Vic20 game into the C64 emulator and vice versa :o
OR if it is a Vic20 image, then you have to configure any extra memory the game requires within Vice before loading it.
As for Temple of Apshai etc, I love the Trilogy, it's one of the best things Epyx ever put out after the basic, slow, clunky originals from 82/83...

The original had style. The sort of ambient noise in the dungeon, for example. In the Trilogy, your character looks like a little boy in his pajamas.
