While reading EGM #52 (Nov 93), I saw two systems mentioned in an editorial that I've never heard of. Is anyone familiar with these? I made a scan of the article in case anyone wants to see it.

Marty / FM Towns
VIS ( from Radio Shack?)

FM Marty Towns is really rare. I have never heard of VIS, maybe the VIC?
Another rare system that i want badly is the Adventurevision.

The Marty is fairly rare, but the games are what's REALLY rare :D

NOt to mention there's two Marty's, and I have no clue about the differences between them.

Marty games are rare, but the kicker come in finding out which games are Marty-compatible and not. (FM-Towns is Fujitsu's old computer line... the marty plays it's games on a console).

If you go to my site->bonus section->videos you can download a Tatsujin-Ou sampler... one of the rarest games for the system. That'll show you a bit of what it's made of.

How's the Sharp x68000 match up to the Marty in terms of game rarity? Especially actual arcade style games (Raiden is all I know of).

@ Jeff D

The Intellivision VIS? Not going to go any further there, but that's what I remember it being called. Oddly, I can't find anything in Google right now, but I know somebody (or many somebodies) here know all about it.

Good/Playable FM Towns Marty Games:

Splatterhouse (essential)
Raiden (has a great remixed soundtrack)
Tatsujin Oh
Rayxanber
Viewpoint
Operation Wolf
Image Fight
Scavenger 4
Rainbow Islands
Afterburner
Galaxy Force II
Libble Rabble
New Zealand Story
Chase HQ (saturn version is better)

If I ever make it to a classic gaming convention, I'll offer my Marty and Marty 2 units as demo units. It is a machine worth exploring.

Or you could just sell it all to me for ridiculous amounts of money..... :D

Basically any game that's found on the Saturn and the Marty is better on the Saturn. I've got both Afterburner and Galaxy Force II. Great graphics - just crappy frame rate. Still better than anything else at that time.

Rainbow Islands and Splatter House are so damn hard to get though. Also, there's lots of other version of Rainbow Islands... you can probably live w/o it.

Max: I was thinking of auctioning one as I've gotten a cleaner one. You might want to be on the lookout.

Sounds like I'll be sticking with the x68K, then. My experience with that console is one game in emulation--but it seems to me that games on that system were built for that console. Hope I'm right, too. :O

Someone tried to sell me a VIS for $50 at a flea market three years ago. "It's just like Playstation - see? CD games!"

While I haven't seen one in the wild since, I've never second guessed my decision to leave that thing behind!

unless you collect consoles, there's no reason to get a VIS, and if you do need a VIS for your collection they can get quite spendy and 50$ for a VIS is a good deal by my books with people charging such outlandish prices as 250 USD for the system with 1 game.

People may be charging $250, but is anyone actually *paying* $250?

I might've picked it up for $50, but the rub is if you actually buy such a system for $50 you're only encouraging the seller to charge higher prices for flea market stuff, either that or he knows his stuff. I wouldn't pass that by if it's at a flea, but I would be concerned about the seller starting to jack up prices for stuff like SMS systems.

Now $250...no way. Absolutely no way.

The Vis was by Memorex, and I own one, and I hate it. I want you to imagine every single level of hell, compressed into one game console. It's just as bad, if not worse, then the CDI. At least the CDI has like, Mario Wacky Worlds. Vis has "Our House" starring the Family Circus cast.

I picked mine up for 75 bucks with 28 games (all but one of which was boxed). I think I overpaid by 74.99 dollars. And the thing is, as much as I hate it, I can't get rid of it-I like the fact that it pads my collection count.
