After seeing a few mentions of the GP32 in the forums, I went and did a little research of my own and I must say that I am impressed. It excels in all the points I dislike my GBA for. I was wondering, GP32 owners; do you enjoy your purchase? Is the software available any good/ how smooth is the emulation in general?
Shameless plug for my Trade/Want list ;)
(Yes, I'm interested if you have a GP32 FLU)

Just an FYI - as far as I know, the GP32 has been canceled. It is no longer being produced.
I could be wrong on this... x_x

I think I read this somewhere as well. Not really a big deal though, I don't think they planned to release it in North America anyway. And as all I really want it for is emulation I don't really care if there are newly released games for it.

They just cancelled the European release. The US release is still on as far as I know.
And the GP32 is awesome.
The Atari , NES , SMS ,TG-16 , and other emulators are real good.
The SNES and Genesis are still a little slow, but by next year they should be near full speed.
It's a good MP3 player, and the homebrew programs and games are real good.
And get the Flu version , the regular one is fine and easier to see than the GBA but you still want the light for low light level conditions.
And get a 128 m smart media card or three , you'll need them.

i thought the word on the street was that one of the companies that some of the parts were subbed through closed things off. and I was thinking i read that it was the company that did the FLU units for them. so i'm not sure, I would recommend finding one now versus later....honestly..

According to GP32 websites, the GP32 is no longer being manufactured, and according to GBAX.com, they are down to about 800 units.
Fortunately, there are tons of kids who bought this thing for all the wrong reasons. It will never emulate the GBA, which is why a lot of people bought them apparently, so there are people selling them left and right. Check the message boards over at GP32x.com, there are always a couple of sale there.
I am completely happy with mine, but that's mainly because the emulators I like all run great. If you like SMS, NES, C64 and Atari ST, chances are you will love the GP32. It plays all those roms with flying colors. Atari 2600 is pretty good but there are a lot of games that don't work. SNES/Genesis emulation may never be achieved with 100% speed + full sound. Right now they work "pretty well" with no sound, slower with sound.
New, the units cost $169. That'll get you a GP32 (non-flu) with the USB cable. You'll also need a smart media card, the bigger the better (up to 128 meg of ram). The FLU is not as big of a deal as it is on the GBA, I can tell you that. I had a GBA with no light and it was damn near impossible to play unless lighting conditions were perfect. The GP32 screen is 1000x better and you can play almost anywhere (except in the dark) without a FLU.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me.

The gp32 was only canceled for the europe release. The company Mitsu really screwed with gamepark and they have temporarily stopped production. So don't go paying insane prices for one on e-bay. Besides Gbax is not the only place selling gp32s check www.lik-sang.com I got mine from there. Here is a link for you about the gp32. http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3170

I'd say the GBA definately has way better games than the GP32. :fist:

I would say that most off the shelf GBA games are better than most of the off the shelf GP32 games (partly due to the fact that most of the off the shelf GP32 games are in Korean).
However, I don't think the GBA can run C64, Atari 2600, SNES, Genesis, Atari ST, and NES roms for free with no additional hardware and only free software.
Depends on what you're into. GP32 won't run Pokemon or Tony Hawk. GBA doesn't have free emulators coming out for it weekly.

You can disregard him. He thinks that console in his sig pic is the original PlayStation...need I say more?
(Sort of scary that I find myself using an ad hominem attack :o)
