Some people on the forum said that they bought the new GC bundle that has the Zelda Collector's disc in it.

Since I don't think anyone who subscribed to NP or registered two games on the website has gotten their Zelda disc yet, those people are the only ones who have had the chance to PLAY it.

Inquiring minds want to know, you few who bought either a new or a second GC bundle with the disc --

How the hell IS it??? :D

I didn't play mine, left it sealed and sold it. Figured I'd play it when my other one comes in from Nintendo. :D

They're charging $10-$5 for this WONDERFUL information.... (NO, they're not mine)

I bought the Gamecube/ Zelda Disc bundle pack yesterday. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 'History of Zelda' movie is completely lame. It's about 2 minutes in length and consists of footage sampled from each zelda game (all 10 of them), that's it.
I bought the disc so I could finally get around to playing Majora's Mask.
I'd much rather play it on the Gamecube than have to dig out my old N64, and the resolution is a bit better to boot.

May I presume that there are still jumps in video/audio, like the Wind Waker pre-order disc? How well do the NES games run?

I'm pleased with the bonus disc. It saves you from having to plug in the NES/N64 whenever you want to play any of the Zelda games. I agree that the History of Zelda movie is lame though.

Yes, there are slight jumps in the audio, nothing too bad however. For the most part, they all play fine.

So how do the NES Zelda games LOOK. That's what I want to know. Are they the same, or do they have updated graphics?

The NES games look the same as if you were actually playing them on NES. No updated graphics from what I've seen.

I'll post a report later this week, have 3 days off this week. Perfect time to head to Best Buy and grab a GC bundle. Any tips on which stores have large stock?

I dont have the disk, but I imagine you the graphic quality could be improved over the NES' composite output by being able to hook up the GC through S-video or component cables (Im assuming it has these, I dont have the system).

i've had it now for over a week and half, i got it a bit early from EB. i've never played the 64 games, and i'm up to the forest temple in ocarina. i haven't noticed any sound or video skipping, although when you pick up a rupee, the sound is kinda ugly and distorted (it sounds like the wave is peaking too high), it also sounds like this on the sound when you pick up hearts and deku nuts but it isn't as bad. actually most of the sounds in the game appear to be a bit too loud and hence distorted, but the rupee one is the only that is annoying. i haven't noticed any bad sound when you goto the menu (which i heard somehting about on the master quest disk). the retrospective video is pointless. i played the first zelda for 5 minutes on a sony trintron 32" and it looked a bit stretched, but i think the original would too if i played it on that tv. (my nes tv isn't quite as wide although they're both 4:3). like i said tho, i never played the 64 zeldas, but overall it doesn't seem like a rush job or emulated badly by any means. the only load time so far is when you first load up the game (which is like maybe 8 seconds). maybe there is a touch when you goto the menu, i dunno, but it isn't like the anthology/chronicles ff games by any means at all. the controls seem right on point and you can either use the c stick or the x,y,z buttons for your assigned items. btw, ocarina is a freaking amazing game. i've already used a guide twice tho :(

I wonder where the discs are being shipped from? I've bought a couple things from Nintendo direct, and it only took 3-4 days to get to me with 1st class shipment, because the packages came directly from Washington state. If these are shipped from the same place, it should be in my hands today or tomorrow! Can't wait! :-P

Hmmm I subscribed to friggin Nintendo Power the first day this promo became available. Aside from a verification that I had paid and an invoice for the disc and Nintendo Power, I have yet to hear anything else since then :(

I, too, subscribed to NP last Monday, 9am EST (the earliest possible, in other words). I never received any email confirmation from Nintendo that my Zelda disk was shipped, but according to My Nintendo's order status page, it was shipped on Nov. 20. So it should be in, any day now!!!

So, check the My Nintendo page before contacting Nintendo... Just in case they did send the disk but forgot to tell you!

Today I had the time finally to renew one of my NP subscriptions in order to get the Zelda disc. I also ordered the new strategy guide for the new "old" games.

It's a nice thing to play the 8bit marvels on the GC, but I'm not so excited about it; we played the games already, we know them, and we know about the graphics quality of the N64 games for the GC from the preorder WW disc.

Considering that the new disc is supposed to be an incentive to buy the low priced GC, it's a bit disappointing that N didn't put more features on it. It would have been great to have interviews with Miyamoto and other developers who worked on the Zelda games, accompanied by an extensive history of the Zelda games. A retrospective commentary about a game series which wrote videogame history would have been great and mouthwatering for us older gamers.

Currently trying to get my hands on a US disc using the US site's registration process (and QoF's address). Already had an email mistakenly sent regarding them sending the disc out before I'd even registered two games. Got this today...

Hello,

Thank you for registering your Nintendo GameCube at Nintendo.com.

We wanted to make you aware of an error in our product registration
program. In order to qualify for the Zelda collector's disc, we
requested that two software titles be registered in addition to a
Nintendo GameCube system. However, due to a programming error, you
received an e-mail letting you know that you had qualified for the
Zelda collector's disc before all required products had been
registered.

We wanted to let you know that despite the error, we have gone ahead
and sent you the disc as stated in our e-mail. It was sent via the
postal service and should be received in 3-5 days.

If you haven't yet registered any software titles, please be sure to
do so in order to be eligible for future promotions that are in the
works at Nintendo!

Still, back of the net there :D

Heh, ya got lucky there!

It's true that the disk should have included at least an interview with Miyamoto (and what about Koji Kondo, the composer of most of that wonderful Zelda music?). Insight from them would have been great. Yeah, yeah, we all know the origins of Zelda as an homage to Miyamoto's wanderings/exploration in the country as a child, but it still would have been great to hear his opinion about the evolution of the series, what he thinks of the Capcom Zelda games (Oracle of Seasons/Ages, LttP GBA), etc.

Again, I'm getting the disk solely for Majora's Mask, so my expectations didn't really go beyond that, especially after hearing that the retrospective movie was so limited.

Even if they hadn't sent it, I'm getting at least two games to do the registration with anyhow (MKDD and M&L:SS). Apparently NoE are doing a similar thing in certain European countries, just naturally the UK gets left out of this, royally pissing off many people

People here have to get 4,500 star points instead. And with full price games only giving 250-300 stars each, that's a lot of games to register...

the_red_skull
11-27-2003, 07:56 AM
yep, 4500 stars is way too much - i'm almost there, but won't make it in time for the 1/12 release, where in typical style of everthing in the catalogue, it'll be sold out within minutes

oh well, i guess i'll keep my stars until the next 'bonus' disk gets released and it costs however many thousand (at present rates of inflation it'll be 6000)

but then, when you live in the UK, you get used to being screwed by games companies - it's nice they've found a new and exciting way to do it - bastards

Arnold, you're being given a second chance at life, an opportunity to screw it up in new and exciting ways!

sorry, I had to.
