I seen this game in the store with a red Greatest Hits topper....are they just giving out the title "Greatest Hits" to games now just to push sales or something....because theres no way in hell this game could have sold the amount it needed to become a real greatest hits title. Whats next! Spyro's PS2 game with a GH topper?

This is just....odd

Around these parts, if you go to a non-arcade location and they have a newish arcade game, chances are good it's Cabela's. That is a popular game, like it or not. I took a class from a guy who worked on one of the infernal Deer Hunter games for PC and he was saying that though that series isn't a gamer's series by any stretch, it moved huge numbers and was by far the biggest seller his company produced. I can't remember exact numbers, but we're talking more than many of the popular PC games of that time.

It's funny, these are quite far off the radar for "real" gamers, but stuff like that sells to people like my dad who might otherwise not buy any other games. I don't find Big Game Hunter going GH hard to fathom at all.

imo, i think people have waited for a decent console based hunting game for years. i myself play the pc deer hunter games (4 and 5, waiting to buy the newest dh2004)everyday, and there are a ton of people who play them faithfully. lots of sites that have tourneys and things related to hunting. so i wouldn't say it would be off the wall for it to be greatest hits. on another note just saying it's a greatest hit, doesn't mean it was a great game. i have yet to play one other than pc versions. it just sold well, kinda like special ops.......

I was thinking the same thing..."How in Jupiters Balls did that game make it to Greatest Hits" I played the pc version and thought it was lame.

This title never had the regular $50 price tag and I think it originally retailed at the $19.99 range so that might be the answer. Or it could be the 2 deer staring at you on the cover daring you to kill them.

I think its the deers

people see the game in the store and are like....FUCKING DEERS!!!! I KILL YOU!

Then they buy the game, realize its crap, break the disk, go back to the store and they see the deers taunting them again....and buy it again, continuous cycle where only the store wins.

:D

Have any of you actually played the game? It's quite fun and yes, I do hunt, but you can play it in a pretty arcadey way, just drive around and run over the animals if you want.

It did release at $29.99 during Christmas season (last year?...seems right) anyhow, we could NEVER keep this game in stock. It wouldn't even reach the drawer before someone bought it, and even over the year, we'd get 2 copies each week and they'd sell rather quickly.

I didn't understand it, but it was a good price point and released at just the right time. I'm beginning to think that Sony has started making "exceptions" in the past few years.
