View Full Version : Gamechoice.com.hk...unsure about them now

After a legendary wait (starting on September 6th), I finally got (most of?) my order. They had promised me "two Famicom games of our [meaning their] choice" to make up for the wait, but they didn't show up (I had also said they weren't so important).

Keep in mind that all these items cost me $661.97 after S&H; before S&H, $613 (and it seems they're listing complete Sharp Twin Famicoms for $245 now, where I'm using a figure of $297 in my before S&H) and that I'm not sure if one title was ordered at all (it didn't show up, and in any case they've dropped the price a few bucks on that one, too):

Sharp Twin Famicom -- complete
Well, this one hasn't been used at all that I can see. There's some writing on the warranty (I believe it is one) but everything else, including the controllers, are still wrapped up. The bad news is that they sent me the wrong color Famicom. This (http://www.gamechoice.com.hk/navigateProduct.asp?product_id=545#) is what I ordered, and this (http://www.gamechoice.com.hk/search.asp?product_id=546) is what I got (though it looks better, especially the controllers, than in the pic. What's the big issue here? Well, aside from the fact that I actually had a color preference, I don't see information about that other style too often. Though I couldn't say for sure, I had the feeling it's a less common style of machine.

$39 each:
Shadow Dancer, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star IV. Phantasy Star's box, in particular, is very well used, worn on the edges in fact. The contents are in perfect shape...but the box really isn't.

$55 Rent a Hero
Doesn't show up on my order anymore, but I'm quite sure I ordered it. Could be wrong, though.

$199 Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
I'd be fine with this one if there weren't scuffs all over the damned cartridge. The box and other materials are there (though of course the mini poster, if one came with this game, is missing) and in perfect shape...but the cartridge is a sorry mess, and there's waterspots as if somebody dragged a wet cloth across the back to try and clean it up. The shiny golden-yellow-greenish sticker is still on the cartridge and the labels seem fine...but the plastic surface on the front is scuffed up. Would you pay that sort of money for this?

All said and done, I'm not terribly happy with this. The quality of items from GameChoice is hit-and-miss: One day you buy a game and only get a cartridge, the other you buy a game and it's never been used. Dealing with them, however, is very expensive compared to other outlets, and waiting two and a half months for them to find an item they listed "in stock" is ridiculous.

I do not believe I'll be ordering from them again, and I would advise anybody who is considering an order with them to look other places first and to only order one item at a time, as their website is obviously not up to date.

"Hi

I'm not going to answer any of your questions.

Bye"

WTF?!

Thanks for the heads up though. I almost bought Hero Retsuden and an AV Famicom from there.

i got some experience with this store:

about one month ago, i saw they have MGD Game Gear interface avaliable and i checked with them whether can i buy it? they repeat answering me "what do you want" in icq. seem the sale person not so familiar with their item in stock. STRANGE.

another example is around half year ago, again in icq, i asked them for the price of a used and boxed PC Engine CDROM, they said they only can reply me by email. OK i drop them an email and they sent me the price. The price is 100USD (..... HIGH PRICE X_x ) I asked whether i can local pick up in their store? ( i live in HK and know the building where their showroom is located, but never been there before) They said OK, but never confirmed me with date and time. MAY BE their target consumers are outside HK??

Yes, it seems their target customers are definitely outside of Hong Kong.

Now they sent me two emails.

#1 stated that they could give me a further discount on Rent a Hero (down from $49 to $39...bleh)

And explained the problem as "since the wait was so long we sent out the Famicom without checking what color it was." Eh, sure. As if there isn't a little picture on the side panel.

#2 was that I could return the Famicom for another.

Does anybody have a clue how the black/green Famicom compares to the black/red one in rarity?

I'm really not cool with the idea of sending an unused Sharp Twin Famicom back through the mail to get beat up again, though...so I might just take this "discount."

I swear I'm never touching that place again. Celga and Yahoo! Auctions Japan from now on.

You may not want to send it back anyways... you may never see it again...

Heh heh. I seriously doubt that would happen; I'm just tired of dealing with this.

As for the side of the box comment...I looked and saw that there's a picture of a Twin Famicom, but it's a black line drawing so you probably can't tell without opening it (or if you read Japanese, it might say what the color scheme is there).

Bit of a downer, but eh.

I've tried getting bulk quotes from this place before, and they'll only give them out if you send them a list of items you want along with the quantites, which is fine, but
A. - it feels like someone is doing this out of their garage (Which I know this is in actuality rather LARGE company, they should be more "with it")

B. - their prices aren't good enough to warrant going through them for ANYTHING as opposed to any other site that has better engrish, and a better layout. Hell, MY website is set up better than that place.

Quick question Silent...when did you ask them for a quote? More recently they've gone to this annoying "shopping cart" ordering method, and they still won't update item listings for their site, as my Sharp Twin Famicom in Two Months -- Extra Fast Shipping Though fiasco proves, I've never gotten something shipped more quickly from the orient.

They offered me a rather poor deal to cover up for this mistake, which is worse than nothing. It's insulting. I'm probably going to simply respond to their email with a simple "I'm not interested in that offer. Thanks for the Twin Famicom, I'll keep it."

And the "gift." (WTF?) It's like a placemat out of woven reeds or something, with two wooden dowels at the ends. I have no idea what that is, but I know it's not the two Famicom games of their choice I was supposed to get. Yeah, right.

$661.97 for that stuff is ridiculous. Real Bout Fatal Fury Special isn't the most common title, but it's hardly worth that much.

Actually, they got back to me with the quote less than a week ago, so VERY recently :)

Wierd.

Well, they haven't heard back from me. I'm not going to waste my time trying to get them to actually do the work they should've done already, but I suppose it needs mentioning.

I wouldnt order from that place, i know i have before, but not again..

As for famicoms i have both the one your ordered and the one you got ( i think mines red from memory though), both boxed and complete ( one is brandnew ).. Right now id say they are even in rarity, a while ago, a lot of NOS of the one you wanted went onto Yahoo.jp. thats how i got mine.
