Kiki Kaikai: Nazo no Kuro Manto (The Mysterious Black Mantle)
Played this a bit last night. Took me ages to get to stage three. Very hard. Was shocked.
Anyone tried it? I do love these kinds of gamse (Twinkle Tale, and the other Kiki Kaikai's) but there's just so damn few of them. Anyone have more to recommend?

I think I played the PC Engine one a few times. Don't remember how far I got into it. Can't remember it's exact name anymore.
You could maybe try out Legend of Valkyrie as it has some samilarities but it's kind of more of an action/RPG arcade game. Not sure what to classify it as.

I'm totally not familiar with that one. Is it MD? PCE?

I think there's a port of it on PCE. It's also on the Namco Museum vol 5 disc on Playstation.

Your correct on both accounts. There also a version on the Namco Anthology. Forgot if it was 1 or 2 and it had a regular version and an enhanced version.

Yep, didn't think it was anything too special on the PC-Engine though.
I played something or other in MAME a week or two ago that was essentially the same game...but I can't say for sure if it was. Two things that might help identify it, though:
Guys on kites
Final boss is a large woman's head which slowly turns demonic and nasty as you shoot at it.
I also inexplicably gained invulnerability from damage in my third play or so of the game -- invulnerable except falling down holes or in lava.

As far as I know, there's a Famicom game, PC-Engine, two SFC versions, and a GBA version.
I beat the GBA version, played about halfway through one of the SFC ones, one stage of the other SFC one, a slight bit of the PC-Engine one, and have never played the Famicom one.
The SFC ones I like the most... even better than the newer GBA version.
I'll check around to see what can be seen on Mame. Overall, I like it.
I've tried Legend of Valkyrie... it's a bit slow-paced, but not bad.

Ah, I know I'm thinking of a wholly different title in MAME. It plays the same, though. The game I was thinking of (thank god for named savestates) was Youma Ninpou Chou, and it is a good bit of fun (though short and repetitive).
