I've been seeing lots of Master System carts at the thrifts lately. I was wondering are they worth anything?

I've been seeing them for 2 bucks each, 1 buck on half off day.

Also, I saw a Magnovox Odyssey 2. What is that worth?

thanks for any help

I have like 3 complete SMS games, and I don't even have a SMS, just bought em because I like the way they look lined up. :)

Nobody really answered the original question. What are common master system carts worth?

Ballpark?

I checked the digital press rarity lists, and it just has the name of the games, not the price.

Common carts? No idea. Common Master System games like Shinobi or...er, all the other stuff I've got, which is all pretty common (though I have as many European PAL MS carts as American) seems to be around $10-20 each.

Then there's Phantasy Star, which seems to sell for $70 complete. For some reason.

They didn't answer the question because you should buy the guide. It's well worth the money.

You also didn't state weither they're loose or complete. Loose SMS carts aren't worth more than $2-5 tops. Now complete ones, on the other hand.. those can go between $2-15 average, and as high as $40-50 for certain games.

And Ed Oscuro, where'd you get that $70 figure from? It routinely goes for $25 on eBay. You must have witnessed a bidding war that followed a drought of the game, 'cause $70 is insanely high for Phantasy Star.

Glad to hear that's wrong..! That's the price I remember listed at the 4Jays website.

4Jays doesn't offer high enough quality to justify their prices (I know). Just as an aside, I couldn't recommend more strongly that people take their business elsewhere.

Common complete games - $2 - 6, averaging about $4. If the games arent complete, maybe $1-3 a piece. Boxed without instructions I would guess go for just slightly less than complete ones.

So I guess, unless you are getting them for a buck or less, not really worth it, unless you actually have a master system yourself and you want that particular game.

Actually, if you *bought* the guide like the majority of us, it would probably tell you in it. LOL

That would explain a lot when I tried to sell some of mine on another site.
But it doesn't explain why I could not even get someone to trade a 2600 common cart for 1.

Basically, the issue is this:

1. Most, by nature in the US, are worth more than your average loose NES game. Boxed, they're worth considerably more.

2. However, since less Master Systems were sold in the US than NES, and less people had them when growing up, there are less collectors for the system. So trying to find someone who wants to trade/buy them are a bit harder.

3. And this is all fine with me since I'm collecting ones that people don't want like mad and am finishing my collection quite rapidly

Damn! You know I'm lazy! Don't YOu!!!!!!!

So because your lazy, the rest of us need to sit through these: how much are these worth threads.

It's one thing when the item either isn't documented or sufficently unique, but come on it takes seconds to open the book and get a value for common items. Even if you didn't have the guide, after 5 minutes of searching ebay listings, you should be able to get a vague idea of value.
