well after a very, very, very long wait. I got my xbox back(6 week wait LOL ) but for those interested, everything broke down like this:
Seagate 120gb Baracuda HD: $60
XB.IT chip: $50
paying my friend to do all the work: $50
so at any rate, i feel as if the price end of things worked out great. and now that i'm playing with mine, and not going to his house and seeing if i like it. for anybody who has ever done so, you don't really find out how much you like something til you're alone with it. same follows with relationships LOL so anyways, I've spent some time with it over the past couple of days, and i've found that:
it's extremely fun to tweek the dashboard and the skins on some of the emu's. The standard skins that come with some of the emu's just suck. somebody should spend their time with individual emu skins instead of all these dashboard skins. but it's fun to ftp to the box and play with all of that stuff, if you like imaging or anything like that.
all of the emulators i've tested out ran perfect for me so far, but it will be a good amount of time before i can test them in and out. some easy points on the emulators though:
1. S type controllers are totally rockin! Much like running old systems on the dreamcast, except the dreamcast controller is just a bit edgy on it's controls. maybe my hands are just the right size for the S type though, who knows.
2. Guns are compatible with regular NES games, haven't tried it on my xbox yet. but we tested it out at my friends xbox.....and he has a widescreen 55" HDTV.......so it didn't work, the crosshairs, yes crosshairs, were always off. but i've read of problems with HD and guns, so we just played around with it on duck hunt and confirmed that it should work just fine on a "normal" tv.
3. Mame oX, runs great! nuff said.
Anybody who was planning on doing this or was simply thinking about it. please get your questions out so you know what you're getting into. at this point, there are only 2 things that I don't know about the process......that's flashing the bios and completely setting up the dash. because we just cloned my friend's drive and rearranged things as i saw fit. Very customizable and leaves the dreamcast in the dust for disc swapping....that gets old. but i suppose you could tell me that turning the xbox on and off gets old.....yes it does!
And for that, I modded my memory card to be a reset switch, which can also be done to the controller but the memory card is much handier.
And finally, i'm going to pray to god i didn't break any rules! :embarrassed:
