Hey gang,

Got an arcade machine I've been restoring. One thing that bothers me is that the plexiglass bezel has a scuff mark right in the player's field of view. It's easy enough to ignore when playing, but it looks terrible. Is there any magic buffing compound that might fix/lessen this? It's not a scratch, per se. I'm afraid of trying to buff it out, only to make an even bigger scuffed area with any kind of abrasive. Should I just learn to love this mar?

If it is indeed plexiglass then look towards airplane supply companies. They have lots of compounds for working with scratched/scuffed plexiglass.

On the bezel of my Mario Bros. I had some light scratching that was improved with a coat of car wax.

Auto Zone and other car parts stores usually have a plexiglass compound.
I forget what it's called but it is in their car wax area. It's marked as being for Motorcycle windshield and helmet visor plexiglass repair.

The only thing I have ever used is Novus Playfield and Plexi Polish. Happ sells it and the direct link for it is http://www.happcontrols.com/cleaning_&_maintenance/25132800.htm I normally use the stuff at the top that has the 1-2-3 on it for the different strengths. Good stuff. Not sure of the selling price since I get it from a local amusement place about once every two years for free. It easily lasts me that long. Works great on handheld screens also.

What machine are you restoring? I have a few plexis laying around and may have a decent one for whatever game. Of course I have some games available too :) (Sorry Joe the Crazy Climber cocktail is not one of them)

I'll second that recommendation. Never used the stuff myself (yet), but I hear it everywhere -- usually in the automotive field, for polishing up things like taillight and headlamp lenses or motorcycle windscreens.

I can't read those three bottles...what do they say? I could use some of this to fix my Turboexpress screen.

Thanks!
